Trinidad and Tobago continued their impressive start to the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship on Sunday, securing back-to-back victories with a tense three-wicket triumph over Guyana at the Liberta Sports Club. After being asked to bowl first, the T and T attack seized control early, restricting Guyana to a modest 79-7 from their 20 overs.
Off-spinner Samara Ramnath was the chief destroyer, claiming brilliant figures of 3-20, while the fielding unit kept the pressure on throughout the innings.
Allia Henry top-scored for Guyana with a fighting 22, but the lack of support meant the total always looked under-par.
In response, the Trinidadian chase was far from straightforward. Guyana’s Kaiana Leitch produced a decent spell to rattle the top order, finishing with 3-16, leaving T and T wobbling at 46-5 in the 11th over.
However, valuable knocks from Jessica Davis, 19 and Brianna Harricharan, 17, steadied the ship, guiding the chase to its conclusion.
T and T eventually scrambled past the finish line with 16.1 overs bowled, reaching 80-7 to secure the points.
The victory places Trinidad and Tobago in a strong early position in the standings. The result was in sharp contrast to the day’s other fixtures, which featured more dominant displays.
At the Bethesda Sports Ground, Barbados Women produced a ruthless performance, skittling Windward Islands Women for just 67 in 14.3 overs.
Zaniyah Bruce was unplayable, finishing with stunning figures of 3-2, as Zoe McCallister also chipped in with 2-15. Barbados chased down the target with ease, reaching 68-1 in 11.4 overs, with Jadaeya Holder remaining unbeaten on 26.
At the other end of the ground in Liberta, Jamaica Women also made light work of their target against Leeward Islands Women.
The Leewards posted 90-4, anchored by an unbeaten 31 from Aaliyah Weekes, but Jamaica breezed to 92-4 with two balls to spare. Teandra Morgan led the way with a composed 28, while Sashane Ricketts had earlier restricted the home side with 2-8.
