CRICKET-U19-LEAD Windward Islands Women keep Guyana Women winless

Windward Islands Women put themselves in a strong position to contend for the bronze medal game by defeating the winless Guyana Women by 15 runs in the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship here on Wednesday.

After choosing to bat first at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, the Windward Islands Women posted 93 for three in their 20 overs.

The main contributor to the scoreboard was the 25 extras offered up by Guyana’s bowlers, which included 20 wides.

The next highest score was captain Kaela George’s unbeaten knock of 24 off 29 balls, while Mikayla Adams scored 16 not out off 35 balls, the two sharing an unbroken partnership of 57 runs for the fourth wicket.

Guyana Women’s batters then struggled to score runs in their chase, eventually ending on 78 for eight in 20 overs.

They too benefited from some sloppy bowling by their opponents, which saw 28 extras being added to their total.

Sarah Bheir led the way for Guyana with 24 off 31 balls, while captain Danellie Manns laboured in her unbeaten 15 off 50 balls.

Giada Small (3-13) and Ammie Antoine (3-20) were the main destroyers while Jaeda Tyrell supported with 2-12.

The Windward Islands are now tied with Jamaica Women in third position on four points, while Guyana is yet to win again in four matches.
