The move was part of efforts to confront banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in vulnerable parts of the state.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving the newly deployed soldiers during a military parade held in his honour at Omu Aran.
He stated that the deployment followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assurance to strengthen security in Kwara and protect residents from criminal elements.
According to the governor, the arrival of the troops demonstrated the seriousness attached to improving security across the state.
The development is also expected to significantly expand the military footprint in Kwara, with five new Army battalions approved for the state and the existing brigade scheduled to relocate to Bode Saadu.
AbdulRazaq further disclosed that preparations were underway for another battalion in Patigi, following the visit of a military team to identify and prepare a suitable location.
He said the emerging military structure would be reinforced by the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 9 Division in the state.
The governor noted that the presence of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division was an indication that arrangements for the new command were already taking shape.
He assured the troops of the state government’s cooperation, saying his administration would provide the necessary support to enable the new formations to settle down and commence operations effectively.
AbdulRazaq charged the soldiers to remain focused as they take on the responsibility of protecting communities.
On the welfare of the newly deployed personnel, AbdulRazaq disclosed that the state government had provided a welfare package to assist the troops in settling into their new location.
