The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has challenged the Ademola Adeleke administration to account for the substantial federal allocations it has received since he became governor, in addition to the N15 billion inherited from former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Speaking at the Arise TV Town Hall Meeting in Osun, Oyebamiji addressed questions on his plans for the state and responded to claims about its finances. He noted that in 12 years under former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola, Osun received N450 billion, while Adeleke’s administration has collected N650 billion in just three and a half years.
‘How does N650 billion match what we see in Osun today? Worse still, 97 per cent of those resources go to just two local governments. That is an aberration-actually, it is criminal,’ he said.
Oyebamiji insisted that Oyetola left N15 billion for the incoming administration, contrary to what he described as misleading claims by Adeleke’s government. He urged Osun residents not to be swayed by narratives suggesting that the current administration inherited an empty treasury.
According to him, the present government has enjoyed far greater resources than its predecessors, largely due to increased federal allocations following economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Yet, he argued, little on-the-ground development reflects the level of funding.
‘The resources available to the present administration have never been available to any governor of this state in this manner. But when you look around Osun today, there is nothing commensurate with the level of resources,’ Oyebamiji said.
He commended President Tinubu for bold reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, noting that while the measures posed initial challenges, they have significantly boosted revenues for all tiers of government. Oyebamiji stressed that such resources should translate into improved infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities.
If elected, he pledged to ensure transparent and equitable use of state funds, prioritising accountability, prudent financial management, economic expansion, and inclusive development. He promised to build an Osun economy where young people have opportunities, businesses thrive, workers are supported, and communities receive fair attention.
The town hall meeting featured seasoned media professionals including Dr Reuben Abati, Dr Lasisi Olagunju, Dr Festus Adedayo, and Adesuwa Omoruan, who engaged Oyebamiji on governance, public finance, and the challenges facing Osun ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
