Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged continued government support for markets across the state’s 34 local government areas.
He said all markets were now fully open following improved security.
Radda made the pledge while receiving leaders of market associations, led by Katsina State Internal Revenue Service Chairman Isyaku Mohammed, at Government House, Katsina.
‘Although we cannot say that security challenges have been completely eradicated, there is a visible and significant improvement compared to where we started in 2023. Today, all our markets are open for economic activities,’ Radda said, adding that open markets would strengthen local economies, create jobs and boost government revenue.
He urged the associations to continue supporting revenue mobilisation efforts and ensure members complied with market regulations, while assuring continued investment in market infrastructure.
Mohammed said engaging organised market associations had improved revenue collection from the informal sector over the past three years. Coalition chairman Bashir Ibrahim Faskari commended the administration for modernising markets, citing new facilities in Mashi, Daura, Charanchi and Mai’adua.
