The Edo State Government has strengthened security operations in Ugu Community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, with three Toyota Sienna buses, seven motorcycles and other security equipment.
The intervention, implemented through the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), is aimed at improving surveillance, mobility and rapid response to security threats in the oil-producing community.
The items, which also included bulletproof vests, torchlights and other operational equipment, were handed over to the community at a ceremony led by the EDSOGPADEC Chairman, Hon. Francis Osaretin Osabuohien.
Osabuohien said the intervention demonstrated the Commission’s commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts to secure oil and gas-producing communities and protect lives and property.
He said the vehicles and equipment would enhance the capacity of security personnel to conduct effective surveillance and respond promptly to security threats.
The chairman said the initiative was also in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda and efforts to create a safer environment for economic activities and sustainable development.
Receiving the items, Ugu Community Chairman, Philip Aigbogun, thanked the governor and EDSOGPADEC for the intervention, describing it as a major boost to the community’s security architecture.
Aigbogun assured the state government that the equipment would be judiciously deployed to improve security in Ugu and the wider Orhionmwon area.
The intervention further underscores EDSOGPADEC’s role in supporting security and development across Edo’s oil and gas-producing communities.
