Police arrest armed robber, land grabber, recover firearms, ammunition in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery, land grabbing and other violent crimes within Ibadan metropolis, with firearms and ammunition recovered from him.

Ayanlade Oluseyi Olayinka, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Police Command, in a statement, said the arrest followed credible and actionable intelligence received by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, at about 0245hrs on 15 August 2026, that members of the syndicate had converged at a hideout in the Soka area of Ibadan.

Acting on the information, the operatives swiftly moved to the location and arrested one of the suspects, identified as Arowolo Ademola Adeyemo, popularly known as ‘Demmy.’

A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of one fabricated English pistol, one long single-barrel gun, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition and nine live cartridges.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in land grabbing, armed robbery and other violent crimes. His confession has provided useful leads towards identifying other members of the gang and establishing the extent of their involvement in related criminal activities.

Consequently, the investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are still at large. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has directed the operatives to intensify efforts towards apprehending the remaining members of the gang and bringing them to justice.

The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to provide credible information that will assist in the fight against crime across the State.
