THE Philippine Embassy in Norway took part in the inaugural ‘Ube Festival’ in Oslo, which aimed to showcase purple yam or ube and the rich Filipino culture, heritage, and identity on August 8 at the Skippersuppa at the heart of the Norwegian capital.
In his remarks, Ambassador Enrico T. Fos highlighted that ube is uniquely Filipino, having been part of Filipino family traditions, celebrations, and shared memories for generations-long before its international rise in popularity.
Fos added that celebrating ube also means honoring the farmers, communities, and institutions whose knowledge, creativity, and traditions have made it an important part of Filipino culinary heritage.
The event also gave Norwegian and international guests a chance to discover not only the distinct taste of ube, but also the Filipino culture’s warmth and richness.
First of its kind in the Nordic country, it featured a culinary competition, games, a cultural program, and booths selling ube products and other Filipino delicacies.
