The 105th Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) Club Championship concluded on a high note, with Kushal Johnpillai and Kayla Perera emerging as the respective Gents’ and Ladies’ Club Champions after a series of closely contested matches last weekend at the RCGC course in Borella.
Johnpillai produced a composed performance in the Main Championship to overcome defending champion Kumar Danushan by one hole (1 Up) in a thrilling final. The victory saw Johnpillai add his name to the prestigious list of RCGC champions.
In the Ladies’ Club Championship, Kayla Perera dominated her final against Kaya Abhayaratne, securing a convincing 5 and 4 victory.
Mavali Weerasinghe claimed the Ladies’ Bronze Cup with a 7 and 5 win over Dinoo De Mel.
The Men’s divisions also produced several impressive performances.
Tissa Wickramasinghe won the Seniors’ Division with a nett aggregate of 142, while Rohitha Mendis took the Masters’ title on a countback after tying with Sunil Udalagama on 136 nett.
Lithum Silva captured the Bronze Division with an excellent 132 nett, while Yeun Kook Chung won the Silver Division with 138 nett.
The championship once again highlighted the depth and competitive spirit of RCGC golf, continuing the proud tradition of one of the world’s oldest golf clubs.
