Former Nigeria international and veteran coach Kadiri Ikhana has called for an investigation into the administration of former Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau following the resignation of the federation’s leadership.
Ikhana, a member of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, said resignation should not prevent the authorities from examining the financial and administrative activities of the outgoing board.
He argued that the leadership should account for funds received during its tenure and answer questions surrounding Nigeria’s recent football setbacks.
‘It’s not enough to just allow them to resign. What happens to the huge amount of money squandered in their tenure? What of the maladministration that happened that made us lose two World Cups?’ Ikhana asked.
‘Nigerians deserve to know and the only way is to send either the EFCC or ICPC after them. They should be made to account for every money advanced to them.’
Another former Nigeria international, Felix Owolabi, expressed disappointment with the state of Nigerian football and said he hoped the next leadership would correct the problems left behind.
Owolabi described the decline as ‘shameful’ and called for a new administration capable of restoring confidence in the country’s football system.
