Woman in court over alleged stabbing of man

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 28-year-old woman, Balikisu Almustapha, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing a man.

Almustapha is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm and threat to life.

The prosecutor, ASP Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 10, at about 1.00 p.m. at Ojota Bus Stop, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant used a knife to cut one Abdulwasiu Yusuf on his left hand.

According to the prosecutor, the incident followed a dispute over money between the defendant and her boyfriend, Abdulkudri Muhammad.

He said the defendant threatened to kill her boyfriend.

Perezi said during the argument, the complainant attempted to intervene and make peace, but the defendant allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed him.

He said the matter was subsequently reported to the Ogudu Police Station and referred for further investigation.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 56(b) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Mrs A.O. Akinde granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

The court adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for further proceedings. (NAN)
