A joint Search and Rescue exercise between Cyprus and Greece took place on Wednesday, September 2. The Search and Rescue Coordination Center (SRCC) said in a press release on Friday that SALAMIS-03/2 was conducted within the Search and Rescue Area of Responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus.
Frigates ‘NIKIFOROS FOKAS’ and ‘HYDRA’ of the Hellenic Navy, patrol boat ‘IOANNIDIS’ of the Naval Command, a helicopter from the 460 Search and Rescue Squadron of the Air Force Command of the National Guard, a helicopter from the Police Air Operations Unit, as well as nurses from the Special ‘MEDEVAC’ Team of the Ambulance Service took part.
The coordination of the exercise was carried out by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Center, in collaboration with the Hellenic Navy General Staff.
The press release noted that the exercise is part of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Search and Rescue between Cyprus and Greece, which aims to enhance the Search and Rescue services provided in the Eastern Mediterranean.
