The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) has launched the Digital Excellence Awards 2026 under the forward-looking theme, “Embracing the AI Revolution.”
The flagship initiative is designed to recognise and celebrate organisations driving digital innovation, while strategically steering the nation toward a globally competitive digital economy.
The launch event brought together key government figures and industry leaders, unified by a shared vision of transforming Sri Lanka into a premier digital nation.
Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya delivered the keynote address.
During his speech, Dr. Wijayasuriya highlighted the government›s steadfast commitment to elevating local technology standards, announcing that the state is making it mandatory to standardise and certify all services in strict accordance with global benchmarks.
Building on this vision, FITIS Chairman Dr. Dayan Rajapakse emphasised the critical need for infrastructure and ecosystem readiness.
“In preparation for achieving a $15 billion digital economy, it is imperative that we aggressively develop our country’s standardisation frameworks and digital ecosystem,” added Dr. Rajapakse.
The Digital Excellence Awards 2026 will serve as a catalyst for this standardisation. FITIS Digital Excellence Awards 2026 Project Chairman Fairooz Habeeb outlined the roadmap for participating organisations. He noted that FITIS has already established a comprehensive benchmark compliant with international standards.
“With the guidance of our knowledge partners and consultants, the next step for local organisations is to be assessed and certified by recognised global entities such as CPG Global,» Habeeb explained.
The high-profile launch event also featured remarks and insights from several prominent industry leaders, including Sysco LABS Managing Director Thushera Kawdawatta, FITIS Software Chapter President Rikaz Moin and FITIS Software Chapter ExCo Member Ehantha Sirisena.
Through initiatives like the Digital Excellence Awards 2026, FITIS continues to champion the integration of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies, ensuring Sri Lankan enterprises remain at the forefront of global digital transformation.
