Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ekiti has commenced an aggressive grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring its determination to secure at least 45 per cent of the total votes cast in Nigeria for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The party made the declaration in Ido-Ekiti, Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti, during a stakeholders’ and leaders’ engagement in Ekiti North Senatorial District, where its candidate for the district, Prince Adeyinka Alli, met with party members and supporters as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the elections.
Speaking at the meeting, an NDC chieftain, Oni Peter, said the party was being built around people of like minds who were determined to rescue the country from poor leadership and ineffective governance.
Oni said the party’s mobilisation was not merely about individual candidates seeking political offices, but about working collectively for the benefit of Nigerians and ensuring that the country was governed by leaders with integrity.
The NDC chieftain criticised the current state of the Nigerian economy, arguing that official economic growth figures had not translated into improved living conditions for ordinary citizens.
He also commended Prince Adeyinka Alli for his efforts toward strengthening the NDC in Ekiti State and making it a formidable political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, Alli’s grassroots engagements and programmes, coupled with the involvement of young political leaders, could help redirect the energy of Nigerian youths from political manipulation to productive activities.
Also speaking, the Ekiti State Chairman of the NDC, Musa Arogundade, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
Arogundade urged party members and supporters to intensify their mobilisation efforts by taking the party’s message to their homes, families and communities.
He called on members to return to their various households and mobilise en masse for both the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other candidates contesting under the party’s platform.
The NDC senatorial candidate for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Prince Adeyinka Alli, lamented the current representation of the district, saying the people deserve better and more effective representation in the National Assembly.
According to him, the challenges confronting the district, particularly unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and lack of sufficient support for traders and farmers, underscored the need for a new approach to legislative representation.
He explained that his ambition was centred on providing true representation that would directly connect the people of Ekiti North with their representative in Abuja.
‘Ekiti North is actually represented in the National Assembly, but the kind of representation we have in Ekiti North is not the kind of representation that Ekiti North truly deserves. Our people need more.
‘Youth need jobs, traders need support. Our infrastructure is crying for help. A lot more is needed in Ekiti North.
‘I will focus mainly on three things. I will be physical, I will be available, and I will be heard. I will be the bridge for our people.
‘People will get access to me. They will see more of me, and I will come back with an updated and periodic report for them to know what their senator is doing in Abuja, ‘ he added.
On her part, the Ekiti State NDC Women Leader, Bosede Daramola, also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the presidential election.
Bosede said the NDC had a strong opportunity to defeat the ruling party, alleging that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had failed to adequately address the country’s security and food security challenges.
She argued that insecurity and rising difficulties in accessing food had continued to affect Nigerian households, expressing the belief that Obi would provide better solutions if elected President in 2027.
