The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, for allegedly impersonating a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
Musa, of Kureken Sani Quarters, Kano, was arrested on 1 September 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. by operatives of the Panshekara Police Division following credible intelligence received from the 52 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Challawa.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly specialised in defrauding people by posing as a senior police officer with influence over recruitment, postings and transfers.
The statement said the suspect allegedly used edited photographs and AI-generated images showing him alongside senior strategic commanders of the Nigeria Police Force to convince his victims that he had connections within the force.
He allegedly used the images and names of senior officers to promise victims police recruitment slots, transfers and postings in exchange for money.
A search of the suspect’s premises led to the recovery of one pair of black jacket uniform, two pairs of black shoes, one camouflage uniform, one blue uniform top and N300,000 cash.
The Police Command said the suspect remains in custody and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Command warned members of the public against fraudsters and impersonators who exploit photo-editing and artificial intelligence technology to create fake images with senior police officers.
It stressed that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is completely free, warning that no police officer is authorised to demand money for recruitment or posting.
The Command urged residents to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer, particularly individuals wearing police uniforms while soliciting money, and to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
The Command said it remained committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that individuals who abuse the image and uniform of the Nigeria Police Force are brought to justice.
