Parliament to debate 22A and Judicature Bill on 24, 25 Sept.

The 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill and the Judicature (Amendment) Bill will be taken up for debate in Parliament during their second reading on 24 and 25 September, 2026.

According to the Department of Communication of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the decision was taken by the Committee on Parliamentary Business on 10 September, 2026.

The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is a proposed piece of legislation focused primarily on judicial reforms and adjusting the retirement ages of superior court judges.

The Judicature (Amendment) Bill is a proposed law designed to expand the High Court bench and adjust judicial retirement ages to help clear court backlogs.
