Gombe Finishes Second At North-East Judo Championship

The Gombe State judo team finished in second position at the maiden edition of the Kauran Bauchi North-East Judo Championship held in Bauchi State.

The Judo association presented the medals it won at the championship to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Abdu Yusuf Kwadon, during a visit to his office

Receiving the team, the commissioner congratulated the athletes and their coaches for the feat, describing it as a significant achievement ahead of the National Intermediate Games and the National Sports Festival.

He said the achievement made the Judo Association the first sports association in the state to win a medal since he assumed office.

‘Your victory is not by accident but a result of commitment, passion, endurance and determination. With this victory, you have become role models to other athletes,’ Kwadon said.

The commissioner also commended the coaches for their dedication and commitment to training the athletes, as well as ensuring Gombe State participated in the championship.

He assured the association of the ministry’s continued support, saying the medals would be presented to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his appreciation.

‘We will forward these medals to His Excellency so that he can appreciate the association with all he can,’ he said.

Kwadon further reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sports development.
