Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, says excessive loads on vehicles is a major factor that accelerates vehicle deterioration, increase crash rates, and as well contribute to the premature deterioration of roads infrastructure.
Speaking in Abuja during the National Breakfast Policy Dialogue and Launch of the National movement for safe loading and Safe roads, he said the danger was not only the weight of the load, but what was carried, how it was combined, positioned, and scaled.
He noted that it also compromise braking, steering, and vehicle stability.
He revealed that overloading and other unsafe loading practices were preventable risks that must be addressed before vehicles entering the Nigerian roads because vehicle overloading was not simply a traffic violation but a road safety infrastructure logistic and economic development issue.
