The State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education said boarding schools would reopen on Sunday, September 13, while public and private schools would resume academic activities on Monday, September 14.
However, schools previously shut down because of insecurity will remain closed until the government is satisfied that the affected areas are safe for students and staff.
In a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Muhammad Iya, the ministry said the resumption date for the affected schools would be announced when it was considered ‘safe and appropriate.’
The ministry urged parents, guardians, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) to ensure that students return to school promptly and orderly.
It also directed teachers to resume duty and commence academic activities immediately.
‘The Ministry’s inspectors will conduct monitoring visits to schools across the State to assess compliance with the approved resumption schedule and ensure that academic activities begin as planned,’ the statement said.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof Ahmad Ladan Ala, also directed heads of parastatals and agencies under the ministry to monitor the resumption exercise and ensure a smooth commencement of the new academic session.
Ala appreciated stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the 2025/2026 academic session and urged them to sustain their commitment and cooperation.
He wished students, teachers, parents, school administrators and other stakeholders a ‘successful and productive 2026/2027 academic session.’
