The Borno State government on Sunday inaugurated a N15.9 billion flyover in the heart of the city to reduce traffic jams and beautify Maiduguri, the state capital, marking the fourth flyover in the state’s development stride.
According to available data, the nine-span Flyover was awarded in 2025 to Chinese contractors, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC).
The government also commissioned school projects, including Lakuawaram Community Senior Secondary School and Shthe ehu Sanda Kyarimi 1 Primary and Junior Day Secondary School.
Others are a dualised 2.5 km road and 5.5 km drainage at the Andari Junction in Kasuwan Shanu.
Speaking shortly after the commissioning on Sunday, the state governor, Babagana Zulum, said the flyover project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and facilitate the movement of people and goods along one of Maiduguri’s important transportation corridors.
He said, ‘The Post Office nine-span flyover was constructed at a cost of Fifteen Billion, Nine Hundred and Fifty-Eight Million, Five Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty-Seven Naira, Twenty-One Kobo Only (N15,958,518,647.21) and completed within 11months’
‘The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods along one of Maiduguri’s important transportation corridors’, he noted.
The governor said the commissioned ads and drainage were constructed with five billion, two million, five hundred and fifty-two thousand, three hundred and Eighty-Eight Naira, Eight Kobo.
‘We are equally commissioning the 2.5-kilometre dualised road with 5 kilometres of drainage from Budum Tandari Junction to Kasuwan Shanu, constructed for five billion, Two Million, Five Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred Naira, Eight Kobo Only (N5,002,552,300.08)’
‘Together, these projects represent our continued commitment to improving mobility, strengthening urban infrastructure and creating an environment that supports economic activity and social development’, he stressed.
Speaking at the unveiling, Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, who commissioned the project, commended the Borno State government for undertaking it.
He said the project benefits humanity and the people of the state. ‘This is one of the projects we will be commissioning today, built by the administration of my dear brother, Babagana Zulum, for the benefit of humanity and for the benefit of our people’.
Sule congratulated the people of the state and the residents of Maiduguri, whom he described as the greatest beneficiaries of the project.
‘In the name of God, Almighty, I hereby commission this bridge, which is nine spans over, for the benefit of the area,’ He noted.
