The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Joint Campus Group of Lagos State-owned universities, on Tuesday declared an indefinite strike across the three institutions in the state.
The affected universities are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The union said the strike followed the expiration of its 14-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government on August 31, without a satisfactory resolution or concrete plan to address its demands.
In a statement signed by the union’s officials at the three universities, ASUU said the state government failed to initiate dialogue before the September 13 deadline.
It said its major demand was the ‘full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-FGN Agreement’ across the state-owned universities.
The union said this included the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and other welfare provisions for serving and retired academic staff.
ASUU said the strike would continue until meaningful engagement produced a satisfactory resolution and the agreement was domesticated and implemented.
The union, which said the action had the backing of its national leadership, urged students and parents to remain calm and law-abiding.
Ultimatum in Taraba varsity
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) branch, Jalingo, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government to address outstanding provisions of the Federal Government/ASUU 2025 agreement.
The union said it would consider lawful measures to protect the interests of its members if the government failed to respond to its demands at the expiration of the ultimatum.
The ultimatum was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the ASUU Taraba State University branch, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, and issued in Jalingo on Tuesday.
The union stated that some key provisions of the FGN/ASUU 2025 agreement were yet to be implemented by the state government, adding that the outstanding issues required urgent attention.
The union explained that the final 14-day notice would run from September 14, 2026, to September 28, 2026.
Strike suspended in Plateau varsity
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University branch, has suspended its strike after reaching an agreement with the Plateau State Government on the union’s six-point charter of demands.
The decision was taken at an emergency congress meeting of the union held on Tuesday in Jos after reviewing the issues that led to the declaration of the strike on August 26, 2026.
In a statement signed by the branch’s Chairperson, Dr Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Dr Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, the union said: ‘The suspension followed an agreement reached between the negotiation teams of the State Government and the Union.’
‘Having reviewed the agreement, Congress resolved that the strike be suspended with effect from 12 midnight, September 16, 2026. By this development, members of the Union are hereby directed to resume all academic activities,’ the statement added.
