The five-member Philippine triathlon team opens its Asian Games 2026 campaign Sunday at Gamagori City Triathlon venue in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
The team, which underwent a after completing course familiarization. held international training camps in Spain, Indonesia and China before arriving in Japan.
‘They are all sharp and battle-ready,’ Triathlon Philippines President Tom Carrasco said.
Fernando Casares, a two-time individual Southeast Asian Games champion, leads the men’s team with Kim Remolino and Inaki Lorbes. The men’s race is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Japan time.
Veteran Kim Mangrobang, a four-time individual SEA Games champion, and Raven Alcoseba will compete in the women’s race at 11 a.m.
The Philippines will be without Kira Ellis, who was forced to withdraw after suffering injuries in a road accident during a training camp in France.
The team will face a field that includes some of the world’s top-ranked triathletes, including competitors from host Japan.
The Philippines’ best Asian Games finish in the event is seventh, achieved by Claire Adorna in 2014 and matched by Mangrobang in 2018.
The team will shift its attention to the mixed relay Monday. The Philippines won gold in all mixed relay events at last year’s SEA Games in Thailand.
