Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Dr. Jane Bassey Adams, has presented her Letters of Credence to the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Linton Allen.
According to a statement released by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Oluwafemi Adeniyi, the presentation took place on September 10, 2026, at King’s House in Kingston, Jamaica.
In her remarks during the ceremony, the High Commissioner conveyed the warmest greetings and best wishes of His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to Sir Allen, as well as to the Government and people of Jamaica.
She described the presentation of her Letters of Credence as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, highlighting the enduring historical bonds, shared heritage, and strong kinship between the two nations.
She underscored the deep cultural and ancestral connections linking the peoples of Nigeria and Jamaica, alongside their mutual commitment to freedom, progress, and national development.
The High Commissioner emphasized the importance of translating these foundational ties into robust, mutually beneficial partnerships-particularly across trade and investment, healthcare, culture, technology, tourism, and education.
She expressed her determination to collaborate closely with Jamaican authorities and key stakeholders to identify new areas for cooperation while reinforcing existing partnerships.
Adams affirmed that her mission would be guided by the vision of ‘A New Dawn’ in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, focusing on reinvigorating bilateral engagement and translating the strong cultural and historical affinity between both countries into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.
Nigeria and Jamaica enjoy longstanding, cordial relations built on shared history, mutual respect, and common interests. Over the decades, both nations have deepened cooperation in tourism, education, sports, and cultural exchange. They have also strengthened collaboration in multilateral forums-most notably the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations-to advance shared positions on global peace, security, and sustainable development.
The Federal Government of Nigeria remains dedicated to working alongside the Government of Jamaica to explore new avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation, ensuring that the fraternal ties between both nations yield meaningful benefits for their citizens.
