Larry FC and Unification Ladies won the men’s and women’s titles of the inaugural Lagos Mini Football League after the finals at the Keke Primary School Sports Facility, Agege, Lagos.
Larry FC beat G-Innovation 2-1 in the men’s final, while Unification Ladies edged Dream Stars 4-3 in the women’s decider.
A total of N3.5 million in prize money was shared among the winners. Larry FC and Unification Ladies received N1 million each. G-Innovation collected N500,000 as runners-up, while Mande FC took N250,000 for third place. In the women’s category, Dream Stars earned N500,000 for finishing second, with Ghetto Tigers receiving N250,000 for third.
Thirty clubs, 20 men’s and 10 women’s, competed in the six-a-side tournament.
Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, who also heads the Lagos State Mini Football League Association, commended the organisers for hosting the championship successfully.
‘The inaugural edition has been outstanding, and we are pleased with the high quality of play from the different teams. The players’ fitness, skills, technique, and the overall organisation have been excellent.
‘Kudos to the Local Organising Committee (LOC); week after week, they successfully attracted fans not only from Agege but from all over Lagos.
‘Overall, we’re delighted to have used this platform to create opportunities for our youths through participation and the weekly commerce around it.
‘The Mini Football League is a unique brand, distinguished by its special rules, aimed at popularising small-sided games. Mini football is played by many people daily, and our goal is to promote it as a number one sport within communities.’
Obasa also spoke on the upcoming Mini Football Women’s AFCON in Cameroon.
‘The Agege 2026 event has elevated Nigeria’s Mini Football from a lower tier to the top 7 in Africa, thanks to an organised league,’ he said. ‘Featuring players selected from the Agege championship, this will push us further in the Mini Football Rankings as we prepare to make a meaningful impact at the event.’
