The new Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Prof. Ayodeji Badejo, has resumed.
She will serve for five years.
She received the baton from her predecessor, Prof. Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, during a brief ceremony marking marking a significant moment in the history and continued development of the university.
The ceremony, held last Friday, at the Senate Chamber, brought together members of the University Management, Senate, principal officers, deans, directors and members of staff for the formal transfer of leadership of the university.
The transition is historic, as it marks the first time in the 43-year history of the university that a female vice-chancellor has handed over to another female vice-chancellor.
It was also a peaceful transition.
Prof. Olatunji-Bello thanked the university community for the support and cooperation she received throughout her five-year tenure.
The eminent scholar reflected on the achievements recorded by her administration and emphasised the importance of continuity, institutional stability and collective commitment to the advancement of the institution .
Prof. Olatunji-Bello said the progress recorded during her tenure was the result of the collective efforts of members of the university community, acknowledging the contributions of management, staff, students, alumni, government and other stakeholders.
The handing over symbolised the peaceful transition of leadership and the continuity of the university’s vision, values and institutional mandate.
The 10th substantive vice-chancellor expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her and acknowledged the foundation laid by the outgoing administration.
She pledged to build on the achievements recorded while pursuing initiatives that would further strengthen teaching, research, innovation, staff development, student experience and the university’s engagement with its stakeholders.
Prof. Badejo called for the continued support and cooperation of members of the university community, stressing that the advancement of LASU remains a collective responsibility.
The handing over marked, not merely a change in leadership, but a historic and peaceful transition that reaffirmed LASU’s commitment to institutional continuity, excellence and sustainable development.
