PRP condemns reported arrest of youths over political T-shirts

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has condemned the reported arrest of young people in Borno State for wearing T-shirts bearing political messages, describing the development as unacceptable in a democratic society.

The party said opposition coalition leaders would take up the matter, insisting that Nigerians must be free to express political views without fear of arrest or intimidation.

PRP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

‘The reported arrest in Borno State of young people wearing T-shirts bearing political messages is unequivocally condemned. The coalition will take up the matter.

‘Nigeria must not become a country where citizens are treated as hostages and released only when political conditions are met’, the party said.

The PRP also disclosed that its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, had joined other opposition coalition leaders on a visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday.

According to the party, the delegation met Atiku and members of his campaign council as part of continuing consultations among opposition political forces.

The PRP described the meeting as encouraging, saying the coalition intended to extend the consultations to other political party leaders and candidates.

It said leaders of the coalition parties, as well as other political actors interested in joining the alliance, recognised the need to broaden and strengthen the coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party said the objective was to build a stronger opposition platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027 and presenting Nigerians with an alternative political direction.
