FG begins probe of Niger miners’ deaths as committee visits police command

The Federal Government Independent Committee investigating the incident involving artisanal miners at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office in Minna visited the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, on Wednesday, to seek relevant information on the incident.

The Committee led by Jonathan Kure, its Chairman, paid the visit to the Niger State Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura, Minna as part of its investigative activities.

Speaking during the visit, Kure appreciated the Commissioner of Police for the support and assistance extended to the Committee since the commencement of its assignment.

He said the visit was aimed at engaging the Police Command and obtaining additional information that could assist the Committee in carrying out its mandate.

In a statement signed by Abiodun Wasiu, the Police PPRO, Elleman expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the command’s readiness to provide the necessary cooperation and support to facilitate the successful completion of the investigation.

The commissioner also shared relevant observations and information concerning the incident with the committee.

The engagement underscored the commitment of the relevant government agencies to conducting a thorough and objective investigation aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the incident.
