NPFL: Enyimba earn first win of the season as Rangers hit top

Enyimba ended their winless start to the Nigeria Premier Football League season with a 4-2 victory over Shooting Stars in a rescheduled fixture in Aba yesterday.

The nine-time champions had taken just one point from their previous five matches. Richard Ezinne put them ahead in the sixth minute, Chibueze Damian doubled the lead in the 29th and Abubakar Idris made it 3-0 in the 36th.

Ifeanyi Ihemekwele struck four minutes after the break before Shooting Stars reduced the deficit through Mustapha Adams and Johnmark Aule.

It was Enyimba’s first league victory of the campaign, although conceding twice after building a four-goal lead gave them something to address before their next match.

Rangers, meanwhile, beat Warri Wolves 1-0 in Ozoro through a 10th-minute penalty from Godwin Obaje. The away win took the defending champions to 13 points and the top of the standings.

Rivers United moved to 12 points after drawing 1-1 away to Katsina United, while the Lagos meeting between Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City finished goalless.
