Muslim Congress seeks collaboration with The Nation

The Muslim Congress (TMC), Lagos State Branch, paid a courtesy visit to The Nation Newspapers’ corporate headquarters in Lagos on Wednesday.

According to the organisation’s Public Relations Officer, Tirmidhi Akinpelu, the visit was to establish a relationship and seek collaboration with the newspaper in its focus on setting an agenda for social reformation.

‘The mission of The Muslim Congress is to guide and set an agenda for social reformation in knowledge, work and school; and one of the ways in which we guide and set an agenda is through our annual State Lecture, which is held in virtually every state where we have branches, and through media engagements such as this.

‘We have also specifically chosen The Nation because of its stature as one of the foremost newspapers in Nigeria, especially in the Southwest region.’

He went on to state that the organisation believes there is much to gain from collaborating with the newspaper, and vice versa.

The organisation’s State Coordinator and Waali, Mallam Tajudeen Yusuf Olusesi, who led the team, shed more light on the organisation’s Annual Week, especially the Grand Finale Annual Lecture billed for this weekend.

‘We are equally using this medium to invite your crew to cover our Grand Finale Annual Lecture coming up on Sunday, October 4, at the JF Ade-Ajayi (Main) auditorium. The special guest is the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat.’

Akinpelu added: ‘The theme of the day is: Nation Building Through Ethical Leadership: Taking Ownership of our Roles. Speakers include Sheikh Abdurahaman Olanrewaju Ahmad (National Missioner, Ansar Ud-deen Society of Nigeria), Professor Lakin Akintola of MURIC, and Alhaji Abdurasaq Adegboyega Abdulsalam of Abu Umar Al-faruq.’

Reacting, Gboyega Alaka, a member of The Nation’s Muslim Community and Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (The Nation Chapel), appreciated their visit and pledged the newspaper’s cooperation in every way it can.

The team later paid a visit to The Nation’s Editor, Mr Adeniyi Adesina, who regaled them with the story of the paper’s gallant strides in the industry, especially in championing multiple printing presses, which ensured that the same hot editions are printed across its three zones of Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja.
