A Lagos-based socio-political group affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mainland Independent Group, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a ‘special gift’ to Nigeria, urging Nigerians to support his administration in the 2027 general election.
The group’s Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Alao Megida, spoke at an empowerment programme organised by the Tunji Bello caucus of the APC in Yaba, Lagos, where hundreds of residents from different parts of the state received food and cash.
Megida said the intervention was part of the group’s poverty-alleviation efforts and praised its patron, Tunji Bello, for supporting the initiative.
According to him, the programme was not being organised only because of the approaching elections, but had been sustained as part of the group’s humanitarian activities.
He hailed Bello for donating an auditorium to Lagos State University (LASU), describing the gesture as an extension of his family’s commitment to education.
Megida recalled that Bello’s father had donated the land on which Ansarudeen Grammar School was built, adding that the younger Bello had continued the family’s contribution to education through his support for LASU.
He thanked Bello for donating campaign vehicles to the group, saying they had helped strengthen its mobilisation activities in recent months.
On the political situation in the country, Megida described Tinubu as a leader who assumed office at a difficult period in Nigeria’s history.
He attributed the country’s economic challenges to the policies and alleged corruption of previous administrations, while crediting the Tinubu administration with preventing what he described as further deterioration.
‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man specially chosen by God to preside at the helm of affairs at the critical period which the nation is collectively passing through,’ he said.
Megida urged voters to support Tinubu’s bid for another term, while criticising opposition parties and their leaders.
He alleged that the opposition had failed to organise itself ahead of the 2027 elections and accused its leaders of attempting to undermine the President through international channels.
He cited Tinubu’s role in opposition politics before his emergence as President, arguing that his political experience and previous electoral achievements would make defeating him difficult.
‘Even as a private citizen out of government, Tinubu led the APC to unseat an incumbent government and went ahead again to lead the campaign that returned Buhari for a second tenure,’ Megida said.
He added: ‘The same Tinubu who accomplished this spectacular feat is now the de facto president and you expect to defeat him. That is a joke taken too far.’
The programme was attended by the Alhaja Folashade Morenikeji, Women Leader of the caucus; former Chairperson, Conference of Principals, Alhaja Mojisola Adewale; Alhaji Ayodeji Oselu and other APC supporters.
Food items, cash gifts and campaign souvenirs bearing images of Tinubu and the Lagos State governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, were distributed to beneficiaries.
