The Cebu provincial government suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools across the province starting at noon on Monday to mark National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day.
Gov. Pamela S. Baricuatro signed Executive Order No. 54, Series of 2026, ordering the provincewide suspension.
The order allows classes scheduled before noon to proceed, subject to individual schools’ and education authorities’ policies and discretion.
The order cited Republic Act No. 10743, or the National Teachers’ Day Act, which declares Oct. 5 as National Teachers’ Day.
It also cited Presidential Proclamation No. 242, Series of 2011, which designates Sept. 5 to Oct. 5 as National Teachers’ Month.
Schools were encouraged to devote the afternoon to programs and other meaningful activities celebrating teachers and their role in the intellectual, moral, social, and civic development of young people. The executive order took effect immediately upon issuance.
