Iligan suspends classes on Oct. 8 to honor teachers

Classes at all levels in public and private schools here will be suspended on Thursday, October 8, for National Teachers’ Day and National Teachers’ Month.

Mayor Frederick Siao issued the order to recognize teachers’ vital role in nation-building, pursuant to Republic Act No. 10743, which declares October 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Day.

He noted that teachers play important roles beyond the classrooms, including inspiring students to reach for their dreams.

‘You do not only teach lessons from books, but also teach our children how to dream and stand on their own and for our city. You are the second parents and the foundation of Iligan’s progress,’ the mayor said in Bisaya.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Iligan City Division will mark the occasion with a concert featuring South Nova Band at the Anahaw Amphitheater in Buhangin Hills, Barangay Palao, starting at 3 p.m.
