Kano State Police Command has recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen at gunpoint on the Kano-Maiduguri highway and arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery.
The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the incident occurred after the victim, identified as Nasiru Ibrahim, agreed to convey some passengers from Hotoro Quarters in Kano to Yar Gaya in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state for N8,000.
While they were travelling on the highway, the suspects allegedly brought out locally made firearms, threatened Ibrahim at gunpoint and dispossessed him of his tricycle.
The suspects reportedly took the victim into a nearby bush to prevent him from raising the alarm before fleeing with the tricycle.
The command said, following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operations to track the suspects.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the police attached to the Filin Hockey Division, on October 3, at about 1:30 p.m., traced and recovered the tricycle in Wudil Local Government Area.
Two suspects, Isah (27), and Ibrahim (25), both residents of Zogarawa village in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the crime.
The police said two locally made guns were recovered from the suspects, and that they confessed to the offence during interrogation.
The police commissioner commended the officers involved for their commitment and professionalism, while appreciating residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation.
The command urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar tricycle robberies on the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis to come forward to the Filin Hockey Police Division for identification.
