A new round of talks between technocrats from Cyprus and Israel is to take place next week in an effort to reach an agreement on the shared natural gas reservoir located between Cyprus’ Aphrodite field and Israel’s Ishai field, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) has learned.
The discussions, which will be held online, will involve technocrats from both countries, their legal advisers and the operators of the two gas fields. The issue between the two countries stems from the fact that the natural gas reservoir beneath the Aphrodite offshore block extends geologically into the Ishai field within Israel’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The operator of Aphrodite, which is in Block 12 of Cyprus’ EEZ, is the US energy company Chevron.
