Bangladesh Gas Supply Improves as LNG Feed Rises

Bangladesh’s gas supply improved sharply as regasifi ed LNG deliveries from its two fl oating terminals rose to about 990 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD), pushing total national gas supply to around 2,610 MMCFD.

The LNG supply reached nearly 90% of the combined 1,100-MMCFD capacity of the two terminals-the highest level since July 21, when one FSRU was forced offl ine following a fi re.

Imported LNG now accounts for about 34% of total gas supply.

Despite the improvement, the country still faces a gas defi cit of more than 1,100 MMCFD against estimated demand of around 3,800 MMCFD.

Additional gas has been allocated to power plants and industries, easing pressure on production.

Gas-fi red power plants were receiving more than 870 MMCFD, enabling generation of around 5,500 MW, according to offi cials.
