Taifa Gas promotes clean cooking among vulnerable groups

Dar es Salaam. Taifa Gas has sponsored training on the safe use of clean cooking energy for more than 100 people with disabilities and caregivers of children with disabilities.

The one-day seminar, organised by Tupo Sawa Organization under the theme Jasiri Energy, included training on safe gas cylinder handling, identifying illegal refilling and purchasing gas from authorised dealers. Participants also received gas cylinders from the company.

Taifa Gas Health, Safety, Security and Environment Officer Aurelius Mdemu said the initiative aimed to reduce fire risks in homes and businesses while encouraging households to switch from charcoal and firewood to cleaner cooking energy.

The company’s Dar es Salaam Regional Sales Manager, Enock Ngulwa, said people with disabilities needed access to information on safe gas use and opportunities to participate in businesses linked to clean energy.

He said participants were also expected to share the knowledge with their communities to promote safety and environmental protection.

Tupo Sawa Organization director Jackline Mtaita thanked Taifa Gas for supporting the training, saying people with disabilities had the right to inclusive education, including information on clean cooking energy.

She added that access to such knowledge could also help them explore income-generating opportunities, including gas cylinder distribution.

Happiness Alberto, an entrepreneur with a disability who makes cakes in Mbezi Goba, said the training would help participants protect their health, save time and use cleaner cooking methods.

The initiative supports national efforts to expand access to clean cooking energy and reduce reliance on charcoal and firewood.
