Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, Christos Senekis, is travelling today to Luxembourg, in order to participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, taking place on Monday and Tuesday.
According to a Ministry announcement, the focus of discussions will be the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027, with the Cypriot Minister expected to emphasise the need to formulate a robust and adequately funded policy which will ensure a fair income for farmers, reduces red tape and provides the necessary flexibility to Member States.
With regard to trade and the EU’s trade agreements, Senekis will stress the importance of ensuring fair conditions of competition and meaningful access for Cypriot producers to international markets.
In the fisheries sector, the Council’s discussions will focus on reaching an agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2027, as well as on shaping the EU’s position ahead of the meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), the statement concludes.
