The Cabinet of Ministers has approved submitting to Parliament amendment regulations relating to the grant of licenses to tea brokers.
The amendments were published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2501/68 dated 12 August 2026, following the approval given by the Cabinet at its meeting held on 22 June 2026.
The regulations amend the Regulations for the Grant of Licences to Producers (Tea) Brokers, 1979, which were made under the provisions of the Producers (Legalisation) of Producers Act, No. 9 of 1979. The amendment regulations will now be placed before Parliament for approval.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Viddyarathna.
