Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has insisted that his support for Accord Party candidates in the 2027 legislative elections remains unchanged despite joining forces with the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Adeleke said the alliance was strictly for the January 2027 presidential election and would not extend to contests for the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.
The governor stated this on Friday in a post on his X account following the inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s re-election.
‘My support for all Accord candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly remains unshaken,’ he said.
Adeleke explained that the coalition involving Accord, APC and PDP was formed specifically to support Tinubu’s second-term bid, maintaining that the parties would retain separate positions in the legislative elections.
‘Our rainbow coalition of Accord, APC and PDP is united solely for President Tinubu’s re-election in the January 2027 presidential election. This partnership does not extend to the legislative elections,’ he said.
The governor also reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to securing more than the 1.5 million votes previously pledged for Tinubu in Osun State.
The arrangement means Adeleke will support Tinubu at the presidential level while backing candidates of his own party in the legislative contests, despite the participation of APC and PDP stakeholders in the presidential coalition.
Meanwhile, the governor said negotiations to resolve the lingering local government crisis in Osun State had reached an advanced stage.
He disclosed that he had received assurances from the Federal Government that there would be positive developments soon.
‘On the Osun local government crisis, negotiations are at an advanced stage. I have received the assurance of the Federal Government, and there will be positive developments soon,’ Adeleke said.
He urged political stakeholders to cooperate despite their differences, describing the period as critical for the country’s future.
‘These are critical times that demand unity beyond political differences. From the pain of the past, we must unite for the prosperity of the future,’ he added.
