Adeleke rules out seat-sharing deal with Osun APC

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed reports suggesting that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative positions and local government offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the reports circulating on social media as fabricated, insisting that his political understanding with the Presidency does not extend to sharing elective positions with the APC in Osun State.

Adeleke, who reaffirmed his commitment to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the political coalition was primarily designed to secure another presidential term for Tinubu and should not be interpreted as an arrangement to determine the outcomes of other elections.

He maintained that candidates of the Accord Party, under which he contested the August 15, 2026 governorship election, would participate fully in the contests for seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.

According to the governor, the electorate would ultimately decide the winners of the legislative elections, stressing that political parties remained free to field candidates and campaign for their respective flagbearers.

Adeleke stated that he would personally support and campaign for Accord candidates seeking election to the National Assembly and the state legislature, ruling out any arrangement that would require the party to surrender its electoral interests to the APC.

He said the understanding among the coalition partners was limited to the presidential election, adding that the parties would pursue their separate ambitions in other electoral contests.

The governor’s clarification followed reports claiming that his relationship with the Presidency involved a broader political bargain under which the Accord Party and the APC would share legislative seats and local government positions in the state.

He also addressed the lingering local government crisis in Osun, explaining that discussions aimed at resolving the dispute were focused on protecting the interests of the different political stakeholders rather than allocating offices through a political bargain.

According to him, the negotiations are intended to accommodate both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors as efforts continue to restore grassroots administration.

Adeleke argued that resolving the crisis and restoring governance at the local government level were important to the political coalition’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

He expressed optimism that the dispute would be resolved before the end of the year, saying the restoration of effective grassroots administration remained a priority.

The governor urged all political parties to campaign for their candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections, insisting that no party had been asked to relinquish its electoral ambitions under the presidential coalition.

He added that voters would have the final say in determining the representatives they wanted at both the national and state legislative levels.
