The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun preparations for the 2027 general elections with its campaign leadership holding a strategic meeting to coordinate mobilisation and develop a unified message for Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election bid and other candidates of the party.
The meeting convened on Wednesday by the Director-General of the Enugu State APC Campaign Council Chief Charlie Mbah brought together key members of the campaign leadership to review strategies draw on their political experience and establish a framework for reaching voters across the state.
Those in attendance included the Deputy Directors-General representing the three senatorial zones: Deacon Okey Ogbodo for Enugu East Dr Dan Shere for Enugu North and Rt. Hon. S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye for Enugu West. The council’s Secretary-General Dr Eric Oluedo was also present.
Briefing journalists after the meeting the campaign council’s spokesperson Barr. Steve Oruruo described the gathering as a meeting of the core leadership of a broader political structure comprising experienced politicians former public office holders academics intellectuals and influential figures in the business community.
‘We have a very strong body out of which the very core had to meet today under the chairmanship of the Director-General the ebullient Chief Charlie Mbah who set the tone for an effective outing in terms of marketing the governor and all other candidates of the APC from top to bottom’ Oruruo said.
He listed former Governor Jim Nwobodo former Senate President Ken Nnamani former Governor Sullivan Chime and former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi among the prominent political figures associated with the wider mobilisation effort.
Oruruo said the meeting was designed to harness the experience of party leaders anticipate challenges and develop a coordinated communication strategy centred on the performance of the Mbah administration.
He said the campaign would highlight the administration’s activities in education healthcare infrastructure and other critical sectors as the party seeks support for the governor’s re-election and the emergence of its candidates at other levels.
‘The framing of our messaging is anchored entirely on the blistering superlative and audacious quality of performance painstakingly driven by our governor’ he said.
Oruruo added that the campaign council intended to present the governor’s policies and projects as the centrepiece of its engagement with voters.
Among the initiatives he identified were 260 Smart Green Schools 260 primary healthcare centres an international hospital intended to improve access to specialised medical services and the launch of Enugu Air.
According to him the projects and reforms would form a major part of the campaign’s communication strategy with party leaders expected to take the administration’s record to communities across the state.
The spokesperson also highlighted the state’s voter statistics arguing that participation in the last general election fell short of the potential represented by the number of registered voters.
‘In the last election Enugu pulled about 382971 accredited voters but that does not reflect the true voting strength of the state. As of 2023 the registered strength was about 2112000 voters and today it stands at around 2217000’ he said.
He attributed what he described as growing political awareness and public support for the administration to its governance approach and the distribution of development projects adding that the campaign council intended to translate that support into votes for APC candidates.
Oruruo said the participation of representatives from Enugu East Enugu North and Enugu West would help the council develop strategies that reflected the political realities of the three senatorial zones and extended mobilisation to the grassroots.
He disclosed that the campaign office would be opened shortly after which the various directorates would begin operational engagements to intensify mobilisation and publicise the administration’s achievements.
‘The message of the governor’s stellar achievements will be carried into every nook and cranny of Enugu until it becomes a household mantra on the lips of both children and adults’ he said.
Oruruo said the meeting had established a coordinated direction for the campaign council with the immediate priorities being to strengthen its organisational structure deploy the experience of party leaders and prepare for a statewide campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
