Chanaka Perera ended a nine-year drought for the country at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Championship 2026 by making the cut at the prestigious golf tournament in New Zealand yesterday.
Chanaka produced a determined performance to advance into the last two rounds, becoming the first Sri Lankan since B. A. Sanjeewa in 2017 to survive the halfway cut at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. Sri Lanka’s other representatives, Kumar Danushan and Reshan Algama, were unable to make the cut despite their efforts.
