Youths, children push for inclusion in Malawi’s NDC process update on Climate Change action

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Youth and children are pushing for inclusion of their needs in the Malawi’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) process towards climate change adaptation programme.

The children and young people drawn from Salima, Ntchisi and Lilongwe want authorities to address key priority areas in the midst of natural disasters including education, water and sanitation, health, protection and participation in decision making.

With support from NGO Coalition on Child Rights (NGO CCR) in collaboration with National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC), this week children and young people presented the report to Environmental Affairs Departments (EAD) for action.

Gracious Phiri from Chinsapo Secondary School said, “It’s high time authorities could address our concerns amid effects of climate change including recent Cyclones Freddy that let’s many of us not attending classes.

“We want authorities to put mechanism that address challenges that come with natural disasters that lessons must not be disrupted”.

Phiri demands, “We need proper sanitation facilities, shelters that support us during disasters”.

Echoing the same, NGO-CCR National Coordinator Henry Machemba emphasized the need for authorities to address children and youths concerns.

Machemba the report presented to authorities must see support in the 3.0 Malawi’s NDC process as its going to be updated for action.

“Children, youths are raising important issues that needs authorities attention. We need a responsive leadership that put children, youth in the centre of program as the nation future lies in them.

“This is the reason we keep on supporting children, youth in raising their voices that authorities must address their concerns on times before further disasters strike”, assures Machemba.

In his response, Golivati Gomani EAD Principal Environmental Officer in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Climate Change, Energy and Mining observes that children and youths have valid concerns which authorities will swiftly address them.

Gomani hinted that youths will invited for a number of stakeholders meetings towards updating the NDC process for their concerns inclusion.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Muslim Arts Awards have officially announced the list of nominees for the 2025 edition, which will feature fifteen highly competitive categories.

Emilia Clarke Stuns in Sheer, Frilly Gown During Rare Red Carpet Appearance

Emilia Clarke was the mother of looks at her first red carpet outing in years.

The Game of Thrones star, 39, stunned at the Global Gift Gala on Saturday, November 1, at the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel in London. She served as the Honorary Chair of the event and was seen posing with Global Gift Foundation founder Maria Bravo, singer Christina Milian and others.

Clarke wore a black McQueen dress that featured a sheer lace bodice with frill accents, a low back and a long ruffled skirt. Her hair was styled down and parted to the side. Her natural makeup look was completed with dewy skin, pink lips and black eyeliner.

According to their website, the Global Gift Foundation aims to create a positive impact on the lives of children, women and families who are in a situation of vulnerability and/or risk of social exclusion.

Emilia Clarke Feared Being Fired from ‘Game of Thrones’ After Brain Injury

Emilia was joined by her mom, Jenny Clarke, at the event as their charity SameYou was honored. SameYou advocates for better mental health treatment for people recovering from brain injuries. The organization helps survivors rebuild their lives after leaving the hospital and supports them with innovative emotional, social and physical rehabilitation programs.

Emilia herself survived two life-threatening brain hemorrhages while working on the early seasons of Game of Thrones. She initially believed something was wrong while completing a workout with her trainer in February 2011. Emilia said she “felt as though an elastic band were squeezing” on her brain in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker.

After being taken to the hospital, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Clarke then underwent a “minimally invasive” brain surgery procedure. However, she later suffered from aphasia, which caused her to temporarily forget her name and led her to fear she would never recover.

Though the aphasia only lasted a week, she learned two years later that she suffered another brain aneurysm while undergoing a brain scan. Healthcare workers operated on her twice to resolve the issue, with the second surgery going right through her skull.

“The recovery was even more painful than it had been after the first surgery,” she explained to The New Yorker. “I looked as though I had been through a war more gruesome than any that Daenerys experienced.”

Prince William Honors Emilia Clarke With Medal for Charity Work

Emilia has kept a low profile following the conclusion of Game of Thrones in May 2019. She last appeared publicly at F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain in July 2024 and walked the carpet at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year 2023 in November of that year.

She is set to make a return to the screen soon, however, in the upcoming Prime Video series Criminal and Peacock’s spy thriller Ponies. She also voiced a character in the animated comedy The Twits, which was released on Netflix earlier this month.

Golden Bachelor’s Carol Freeman Emotional About Nephew’s World Series Win

Carol Freeman might not have received a ring on The Golden Bachelor but she can still add another piece of bling to her collection after the Los Angeles Dodgers World Series win.

Freeman — aunt to Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman — celebrated with the team on Saturday, November, 1 after Game 7 of the World Series, which saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings to claim their second-consecutive championship.

“It’s been incredible,” Freeman said to reporter Arash Markazi via X. “It’s overwhelming to have a win here in Canada, my home country. It’s special because Freddie’s mom passed away. … It was really special.”

It’s the third World Series that Freeman, 63, has been part of courtesy of her nephew. The Dodgers won the title last season (with Freddie being named World Series MVP) and her nephew won the title in 2021 as well, when he was with the Atlanta Braves.

Freeman, though, said this latest championship win is the “sweetest.”

“They’ve all been great, don’t get me wrong,” Freeman said. “But going seven games, exhausting the pitching, I have no words. I’m stunned.”

Freeman also serves as her nephew’s agent. She has three daughters of her own.

She was featured on The Golden Bachelor during this season, before removing herself after deciding she did not have enough of a connection with the bachelor, Mel Owens.

“I’m very interested in you, I really am,” she said to Owens on the show. “But I feel like we haven’t had a lot of conversation. I got my family at home and then maybe not getting that one-on-one, I thought, you know what? I don’t feel like you have that connection with me.”

She added, “I don’t think I can continue on this journey with you.”

She then refocused her attention on her family and baseball. After the World Series victory, Freeman said he appreciated her time on the show, but lamented the fact that she had to miss some of the baseball season.

“It’s kind of funny to be on the front side of the camera,” she said. “I loved it. I had the best time. I met some wonderful women and The Bachelor was great. It was fun.”

Clayton Kershaw Retires From Los Angeles Dodgers With World Series Win

She joked: “I missed a few weeks of the baseball season, so that was a little rough.”

Freeman didn’t miss much of the epic World Series, but she told TMZ after the 18-inning Game 3 marathon on Monday, October 27 — the game which saw Freddie hit a walk-off home run to give the Dodgers the win and series lead — that she almost missed the game-winning homer.

“It was almost midnight when Freddie got to bat,” Freeman said. “It was incredible, especially because I was inside because I was seeing if there was any ice cream left. And I said, ‘Oh Freddie’s coming up!’ So I ran out and I didn’t sit in my normal seat. … And I was just praying.”

The Dodgers’ World Series title makes them the first team in 25 years to repeat as champions. The New York Yankees were the last team to pull off the impressive feat, winning three-straight World Series from 1998-2000.

Jana Kramer Teases Potential Role on Season 2 of ‘The Hunting Wives’

Jana Kramer didn’t get her dream role on the first season of The Hunting Wives — but she might have another shot in season 2.

“I was devastated [when I didn’t get cast in season 1],” Kramer, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting her new holiday film, The Christmas Ring. “The amount of times that an actor gets told no in auditions is so much. I’m used to that. But then you get that close and you get pinned for something and you test for it [but] it is between you and two other girls — when you get that call that it’s not you, it crushes you.”

Kramer had a feeling that The Hunting Wives would blow up.

“I knew it was going to be a big show,” she noted. “And there’s a lot of people too that ask, ‘Why would you want to do that show when you talk about your faith and this and that and the other?’ One of my favorite and most iconic roles was Alex Dupre on One Tree Hill because she was wild and she was crazy. I didn’t relate to her but I got to have fun.”

Which ‘Hunting Wives’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning After Book Changes?

She continued: “I got to step outside of [myself]. I love playing the mom in movies, but gosh do I want to go back to having some fun and really acting and having these crazy characters.”

With production yet to begin on season 2 of The Hunting Wives, Kramer said she has been in touch with the casting team. “I did get an email about a potential role. But I have to audition and see what happens,” she said. “Who knows? I know that one day it’ll hopefully be something. My goal is to get back on the show and getting that close is so so hard. but it just means I’m one step closer.”

Based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, the show premiered on Netflix in July. Kramer subsequently took to Instagram Stories to reveal that she was close to playing Callie — a role that ultimately went to Jaime Ray Newman.

“I got pinned for it. It’s really hard in this industry to test. It’s so hard to get to that place. Even at auditions, there’s so many people that audition,” she said on her “Whine Down” podcast. “You’re on deck. You’re pinned is, like, you’re available. They want you and you’re saving those dates. You are this close to tasting it. [When I didn’t get cast on] The Hunting Wives, I cried for, like, three days. I was so upset.”

Kramer shared that The Hunting Wives wasn’t the only show she nearly booked recently.

“I had a really good feeling about this last audition [after The Hunting Wives. It would have been a huge spinoff show for me to get. I was in the mix and I got the text from my manager being like, ‘Hey, their offer is out to this person so if they don’t accept then you’re next.’ But this person is going to accept,” she recalled. “This person, I know their show just got canceled and they’re perfect for the role. I’ve been up against her a few times for things.”

Kramer continued: “It’s a great role and this is awesome for her. But it was one of those moments where I was like, ‘When will it be my turn?’ I’ve worked so hard. I want this. I want to be back on a show again and that is my dream.”

What to Know About ‘Hunting Wives’ Season 2 After Changes Led to Deadly Twist

Despite feeling discouraged, Kramer refused to give up. “I know it’s going to happen. I’m so sick of saying that [though]. Because everyone’s like, ‘You’re right there. You’re going to get it.’ I’ve been saying this for 20 years. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been off One Tree Hill,” she added. “I know people deal with this. But it’s OK for us to not be OK sometimes.”

Kramer isn’t just waiting for a role on The Hunting Wives. While speaking with Us, she discussed starring in The Christmas Ring, which is based on the novel of the same name by Karen Kingsbury. The film follows military widow Vanessa as she searches for her family’s lost Christmas ring, an heirloom from D-Day. Her journey brings her to Ben (Ben Hollingsworth), who shows her that a second chance at love might be possible.

“What I love about Christmas movies is that they have a formula down, but sometimes I wish they would have a little bit more of [the things that] Karen brought to this movie,” Kramer said. “It has conflict, it has loss, it has grief, it has hope. And she just ties it together so beautifully.”

Kramer appreciated that the film had an “element of faith” but is perfect for everyone who loves the holidays.

“It was so fun to do a Christian, faith-based [movie], and it’s also fun to have that steamy thing too,” she told Us. “And that’s what I love about The Christmas Ring and [A Cowboy Christmas Romance], because each one pushes the limits a bit. The Christmas Ring is pushing the limits with loss and grief and family connections and conflict. And [Cowboy] drew on the sexual boundaries.”

The Christmas Ring hits theaters on Thursday, November 6.

Which ‘Stranger Things’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning for Final Season?

Stranger Things is wrapping up its run on Netflix with a fifth and final season spread across three different drops — but not every cast member is returning.

The hit series, which debuted in 2016, focuses on a fictional town where a series of supernatural events take place and cause mystery and mayhem. Over the course of five seasons, Stranger Things has catapulted its cast members — Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery — to stardom.

Ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated season 4 premiere in 2022, creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that they were going to end the series after one more chapter in Hawkins, Indiana.

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they detailed in an open letter in February 2022. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but — as you’ll see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”

Holy Upside Down! ‘Stranger Things’ Cast From Season 1 to Now: Photos

Later that year, the Duffer Brothers opened up about their vision for the final episodes and addressed the season 4 episode split.

“The original plan was to release it all at once again. But as we began turning over episodes, everyone began to feel the season was too big to be released in one batch — at nearly 13 hours, it is really more two seasons than one,” they told Variety in May 2022 after Volume 1 dropped the first seven episodes. “Episode 7 is as big as any season finale we’ve ever had, so it made sense to everyone involved to split the season there. Episode 7 really serves as the end of the second act — and we feel that our final act had enough meat on the bone to make up Volume 2.”

Before filming the finale season, Harbour teased Hopper’s potential story line in season 5.

“We’re walking into season 5. I’ve got a couple more months to train,” he said at the Middle East Film & Comic Con in March 2023. “I did a lot of training for season 4. He [Hopper] was in a very specific position, that Russian prison. It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he’s back in town, he’s back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed.”

Millie Bobby Brown

Brown admitted in March 2023 she was “very ready” to move on from Stranger Things, but Eleven will appear.

“I’m definitely ready to wrap up. I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now,” she explained to Seventeen. “It’s been in our lives for a very long time. But I’m very ready to say goodbye to this chapter of my life, and open new ones up. I’m able to create stories myself that are important to me and focus on the bigger picture. But I’m really grateful [for the show].”

Finn Wolfhard

“There’s an excitement there because you always want to wrap it up and you want to see how these characters are going to finally develop one last time, and how they’re going to finish their journeys,” Matarazzo said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March 2023, noting that the experience was “bittersweet” as well. “But also, there’s a deep fear that’s been like — not only has it been amazing, but it’s been, like, pretty great job security.”

Matarazzo said he was looking forward to Dustin’s final arc. “I think [the story is] in the best hands it can be,” he explained. “Matt and Ross know these characters better than I think we might. It’s really interesting ’cause they trust us all very much to make our own decisions and go about the scenes the way we’ve always instinctually wanted to.”

“There will definitely be another center point for Will in season 5 and I think it’s really exciting and I’m definitely so excited to see what they have in store,” Schnapp exclusively told Us in January 2023. “They won’t tell me specifics, but they were like, ‘You just wait. You will be very happy and excited. So sit tight.’”

He continued: “I think the story opened and started with Will, and I think ending it with him and circling back on that is a nice way for them to wrap it up.”

“I have no doubt the bigger, scarier, action-y plot will be very much there. That’s almost guaranteed,” Dyer told Netflix’s Tudum in July 2022 about her wishes for season 5 before returning to film. “But I really am looking forward to hopefully having some of those nice character moments of these people connecting and showing that they care about each other. That’s the heart of what we like to do. I believe that’s part of the appeal of the show — the heart.”

Joe Keery

Keery a.k.a fan-favorite Steve admitted in August 2023 that while it “does feel like it’s time” to wrap up the series, it “won’t be easy” to see it all come to an end.

“I owe my whole career to being on that show and all the opportunities that I had since are because of that show,” he told WWD at the time while filming. “So it’s very convoluted. There’s a sense of relief, there’s a sense of sadness. I guess my goal is to just really soak it up as much as I can while we’re doing it, and not take any of it for granted because it’s been an amazing ride with such great people. And then once it’s done, move forward and try to just hold on to the joy that we had when we were making it.”

Keery added that “everything has a beginning and the middle and an end” so it will be “it’ll be nice to have the end of [Stranger Things] too.”

Maya Hawke

After returning to set as Robin, Hawke said it was “already starting to be heartbreaking,” telling Entertainment Tonight in June 2024, “It’s the end of a really long journey. Longer for some of my castmates, even, than for me. So it’s really sentimental. But as a late addition to the cast member, I feel like it’s my job to be here to facilitate their feelings and just be grateful and excited to have been a part of it at all.”

When host Steve Varley shared that fans were in a “panic” after a cast photo was released with Franco missing, the actor said he appreciates that there is “some concern” but he “never got a phone call” about reprising the role.

“So I think, yeah, I think that’s it,” he added.

Kamwendo’s late strike fires Wanderers into FDH Bank Cup Final

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers are through to the finals of the FDH Bank Cup after edging rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 1–0 in a tense semifinal encounter played on Sunday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Promise Kamwendo was the hero of the day, coming off the bench to score the decisive goal in the 89th minute from an Isaac Kaliati delivery that sent the blue side of Blantyre into wild celebrations.

The match, which lived up to its billing as a Blantyre derby, started with both teams showing intent and hunger for an early goal.

Bullets’ Chrispin Mapemba came close in the sixth minute but headed over the bar, while Wanderers’ Sama Thierry Tanjong saw his penalty appeals waved away midway through the first half.

Despite both sides creating several chances, the first half ended goalless with Wanderers goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa and his Bullets counterpart Innocent Nyasulu keeping their teams in the game.

In the second half, Bullets made several changes, introducing Paul Master and Yamikani Mologeni, but they still struggled to break the resilient Wanderers defence marshalled by Timothy Silwimba and Stanley Sanudi.

The turning point came in the dying moments when substitute Kamwendo connected beautifully to Kaliati’s cross, slotting home the only goal of the match to send the Nomads into the final.

There were chaotic scenes towards the end as frustrated Bullets supporters threw objects onto the pitch but the match eventually concluded with Wanderers holding on for a famous victory.

Speaking after the match, Bullets coach Peter Mponda lamented his side’s missed chances and described Wanderers’ goal as “a fortunate strike.”

“We had the chances but didn’t make use of them. The goal Wanderers scored wasn’t from a clear opportunity, it was just a lucky one.We need to regroup and motivate the boys as we return to league action.”he explained.

On his part, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira was full of praise for his charges.

“The boys fought hard from start to finish. Bullets played well but our determination and discipline made the difference,” he said.

“We now shift our focus to the final against Silver Strikers. We’ll prepare thoroughly because Wanderers have never won this cup before,”Mpinganjira explained.

The victory sets up a mouthwatering FDH Bank Cup final between Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers, who defeated Civil Service United 1–0 in the first semifinal.

The FDH Bank Cup, introduced in 2021, was last won by Blue Eagles, who beat Bullets 3–2 on post-match penalties in the 2024 edition.
