Jill Duggar’s Ups and Downs With Her Family Before and After Estrangement

Since 19 Kids and Counting skyrocketed Jill Duggar into the spotlight, she’s experienced plenty of ups and downs with her parents and siblings.

The Duggars made their TLC reality TV debut in 2008. The network suspended the series in May 2015 after news broke that Jill’s brother Josh Duggar had molested multiple girls as a teenager, including Jill and their sister Jessa Duggar.

Amid the scandal, Jill starred with many of her siblings on the spinoff series, Counting On. Jill and husband Derick Dillard left the show in 2017 after two years. (TLC canceled Counting On in 2021 following Josh’s conviction for possessing child pornography.)

“We were ready to leave and felt strongly about leaving. … There are definitely some issues there,” Jill exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2021. After distancing herself, Jill began spending more time with her family in 2023.

My Take On It: Men over 40 get annual Prostate Cancer screening!

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” – James 5:14-15

All around the world, the month of October is commemorated (or remembered) as Breast cancer Awareness Month.

During this month, many women remember to wear pink outfits, hats, or shoes, and handbags. But throughout the year women also get the government-ordained annual breast cancer screening; most governments around the world pay for this screening.

This screening has detected breast cancer early, managed, and/or treated. This has saved many women’s lives or allowed them to live longer, put their affairs in order.

The same now needs to be done for men over 55 years old.

Governments must come up with ordinances to get men screened for prostate cancer; they should also set aside funds for the screening to be paid for by the government.

In the past 10 months numerous men have succumbed to prostate cancer, some are battling the gruesome illness. Sadly many men (not being required by government ordinance) get the cancer and are sometimes only diagnosed with the disease at its advanced stage.

Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the prostate gland, which is part of the male reproductive system. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that “the prostate is a part of the male reproductive system, which includes the male reproductive organ, prostate, seminal vesicles, and testicles.

The prostate is located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It is about the size of a walnut and surrounds the urethra (the tube that empties urine from the bladder). It produces fluid that makes up a part of semen….Prostate cancer is a disease in which cells in the prostate grow out of control.”

The CDC furthermore points out in the Prostate Cancer Fact Sheet “…most men with prostate cancer have no symptoms.

However, some men experience the following: frequent urination, trouble urinating, blood in urine or semen, pain in the back, hips, or pelvis. These may be caused by conditions other than prostate cancer,” the CDC therefore advises men to talk to their doctor if they experience any or all of these symptoms. Below are the symptoms of prostate cancer:

Difficulty starting urination, weak or interrupted flow of urine, urinating often, especially at night, trouble emptying the bladder completely, pain or burning during urination, blood in the urine or semen, pain in the back, hips, or pelvis that doesn’t go away, painful ejaculation.

The CDC states that men that are 65 and older are more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Another likelihood is if a member of the family has been diagnosed with the disease.

Lastly the CDC states that compared to other men, black or African American men are more likely to get prostate cancer, get prostate cancer at a younger age, have a more advanced stage of prostate cancer when it’s found, and sadly die from prostate cancer. So, please do not wait until you are 55 if you are a black man or African American man!

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a group of medical experts, recommends, and I strongly agree and recommend all men reading this column “…..that men 55 to 69 years old make individual decisions about prostate cancer screening. Talk to your doctor about your risk and how you feel about the benefits and harms of screening.”

The task force says the goal of the screening is to look for cancers that are likely to spread if untreated. While some of these cells may not grow at all, most grow slowly.

“The most common screening method is the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test, which measures PSA levels in your blood. PSA is a substance the prostate makes.

Higher PSA levels can show a prostate problem, but it doesn’t always mean you have cancer. If your PSA level is high, your doctor may recommend a biopsy.

This means removing a small piece of tissue from your prostate to examine under a microscope for cancer cells,” the task force informs on the fact sheet.

According to the Force, the benefits of finding prostate cancer that has a high risk of spreading, may lower the chance of death from prostate cancer in some men.

The force warns however, that there is harm in having an abnormal PSA test result when there is no prostate cancer, which could lead to unnecessary tests, like a biopsy. And regrettably “prostate biopsy can cause pain, infection, and blood in the semen or ejaculate.

It states that men who would not have had symptoms or died from prostate cancer can have complications from treatment but have no benefit from it.”

Once diagnosed with prostate cancer, the treatment that may not grow, your doctor may suggest monitoring it over time instead of immediate treatment; this is called active surveillance or watchful waiting, including regular check-ups.

Men whose prostate grows or is at an advanced stage, who may need treatment, modern medical science has the following options that include the following:

Surgery to remove the prostate, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and other treatments.
Such treatments have side effects such as urinary incontinence (accidental leakage of urine), difficulty having sex, and bowel problems.

Men between the ages of 40 and 65 should have annual prostate cancer screening.

As far as possible, governments around the world must make such screening available to all men.

Why Malawian clubs struggle in the CAF Champions League

For 21 years now, no Malawian club has managed to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

Since the golden run of Bakili Bullets in 2004, the country’s representatives have been eliminated in the priminary rounds almost every season.

This recurring pattern has raised serious questions about the state of club football in Malawi and what needs to change.

The failure of Malawian clubs to go far in African competitions is not just about luck or bad refereeing it’s a reflection of a wider gap in quality and preparation between Malawi’s teams and those from other nations.

Football across Africa has evolved rapidly with clubs investing heavily in players, facilities and tactical systems, while local teams still struggle with the basics.

Clubs from countries such as DR Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania and South Africa have continued to dominate African football because of their professional structures and sound financial backing.

For instance, TP Mazembe in DR Congo signs top players from different countries across the continent, building powerful squads that can compete against anyone.

In contrast, Malawian teams mostly rely on local talent with very few international players joining their ranks.

While it’s commendable to develop homegrown players, the absence of experienced foreign professionals means our teams lack the competitive edge required at continental level.

The difference in physicality, pace and tactical awareness becomes obvious once our clubs meet stronger opponents.

Sliver Strikers player in blue and what tussling with Yanga

The last Malawian team to reach the CAF Champions League group stages Bakili Bullets in 2004,had one of the most talented and disciplined squads the country has ever produced.

That team was led by skilled players such as Peter Mponda, Fischer Kondowe,Rahim Ishmael,Swadick Sanudi,James Chilapondwa,Fundi Akidu,Grant Lungu just mentioned few who were true professionals in their approach to the game. They had hunger, passion and a winning mentality.

That success, however, did not come by accident. The Bullets of 2004 had proper planning and good leadership. They were well-prepared both mentally and physically, and enjoyed massive fan support.

Unfortunately, since 2004, most Malawian clubs have failed to reach that level of commitment and organization. Preparation has become one of the weakest links in our football system.

Across Africa, teams that participate in CAF competitions play international friendly matches to sharpen their players before the big games. These matches help improve fitness, build confidence and expose players to different playing styles.

In Malawi, however, such friendlies are rare due to financial constraints. Clubs often go into CAF matches cold, without testing themselves against stronger opponents.

The lack of financial investment in club football continues to hold Malawi back. Many teams operate on limited budgets with sponsorships barely covering local competition expenses.

When it comes to international tournaments, the cost of travel, logistics and allowances becomes overwhelming. Without stable financial support, it’s difficult to sustain consistent performance in continental football.

However, it would be wrong to say that Malawi lacks footballing talent.

The country has produced brilliant players who have shone locally and even abroad such as Esau Kanyenda,Joseph Kamwendo and many more.

If Malawi’s clubs are to compete effectively, they need to adopt a long-term strategy. This includes improving youth academies, attracting experienced foreign players, investing in modern coaching and ensuring proper preparation before international fixtures.

Without these changes, the dream of returning to the CAF group stages will remain far away.

It’s also important for clubs to take personal responsibility rather than relying entirely on the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

While FAM provides technical guidance, clubs must drive their own development through better management and partnerships with local businesses. Football success requires teamwork both on and off the field.

Chrishell and Nicole’s Feud Was ‘Destroying’ the ‘Selling Sunset’ Brokerage

Selling Sunset‘s Mary Bonnet was brutally honest about her take on the Nicole Young and Chrishell Stause feud.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Mary, 45, admitted she wasn’t too taken aback by Jason Oppenheim‘s decision to dismiss Nicole from the office in season 9.

“I was surprised in a way but on the other hand, it was just causing so many problems. She’s a great agent but it wasn’t just Nicole. I always loved Chrishell but the accusations [came] from her end [too]. It’s just not OK,” Mary told Us about the insults thrown back and forth between her costars. “You just don’t do that to people and [Chrishell]’s was all based on hearsay.”

Mary didn’t agree with Nicole’s behavior in season 9 — but she also couldn’t condone Chrishell’s claims.

‘Selling Sunset’ Stars Then vs Now: What They Looked Like Before the Show

“This show goes out to the world and it’s someone’s reputation to the world. So it’s not something you just throw around because you’re angry. And Nicole did not take my advice. I was like, ‘Leave it.’ Just be like, ‘Chrishell, enough. You’ve already said this,’” Mary recalled the advice she gave Nicole. “She didn’t do it. She went back even harder, of course.”

The real estate agent could see Jason’s perspective. “There’s only so much that Jason can let happen. From my understanding, he’s had to have multiple talks with many of the girls — and with Chrishell too,” Mary claimed. “He has had to say, ‘You just can’t accuse our agents of stuff and you don’t know that that’s even true.’ It’s been a doozy.”

While Chrishell, 44, and Nicole’s feud has gone back years, their issues hit a new low in season 9, which premiered on Wednesday, October 28. The duo got into a fight while in a group setting and Chrishell brought up past accusations that Nicole, 40, has been on drugs. Nicole, who has denied the claims, fired back by bringing up Chrishell’s late parents.

Nicole was later asked not to come into The Oppenheim Group.

“It really broke Jason’s heart to have to do that,” Mary told Us. “It was just a decision that was based on what was said and then how much had been happening and the discourse in the office. Nicole’s a wonderful person, a wonderful agent and a great friend. But her and Chrishell together are toxic. It was destroying the entire brokerage.”

She added: “So he just had to make a business decision. It was nothing personal against favoring Chrishell or against Nicole. It was just a business decision.”

All of the Biggest ‘Selling Sunset’ Feuds Throughout the Years

After leaving the office, Nicole told Mary on screen that she was making the move to Nashville.

“It’ll be a really good move for her — getting away from everything here. I think it’ll be very healthy,” Mary shared. “I was very honest with her the whole time [about the drama before this]. We had many, many conversations off camera warning her. At a certain point I had to just back off and she understands. I think she was a little hurt by it but she understands and we’re still friends.”

As for Mary’s friendship with Chrishell?

“We don’t really talk that much or anything,” she said before Chrishell took to social media to call out Mary’s comments about her feud with costar Chelsea Lazkani. “But when I love people, I always love them. I can disagree with their behavior and not like them — or not like what they’re doing or what they’re saying — but I’ve always cared for [her].”

Selling Sunset is currently streaming on Netflix.
