‘The Bachelorette’ Alum Katie Thurston Is ‘Optimistic’ Amid Cancer Battle

Katie Thurston is feeling “optimistic” about the next step in her health battle as she continues to grapple with stage 4 breast cancer.

Speaking to E! News on Thursday, October 9, The Bachelorette alum, 34, said she was “doing good, all things considered.”

She added, “I actually get my six-month scan on Monday, so I feel very optimistic about it.”

After finding a lump in November 2024, Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2025. In March, the cancer spread to her liver, which put Thurston in stage 4.

Katie Thurston Shares Tearful Cancer Update Ahead of ‘Big Scan’

Since then, Thurston has been battling the disease and told E! News that having her loved ones by her side during the journey – particularly her husband Jeff Arcuri – has been appreciated.

“You can’t face cancer alone,” she told the outlet. “You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who’s your partner, who’s right there with you every step of the way? It’s meant everything.”

Thurston also divulged that her diagnosis has caused her to approach day-to-day situations differently than she would have in the past.

“I’ve realized you never know what someone is going through,” she continued. “I find that I’m more patient with strangers. If someone is driving too slow or grumpy, you don’t know what they’re going through in their own life. And so I just feel like I’m more kind.”

Thurston’s health journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing in an emotional sense, as well as physically.

The former reality TV star cried on Instagram on September 30, becoming emotional as she spoke to her followers about how she’s coping after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Tomorrow is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I’m, like, totally crashing out if I’m being so for real,” Thurston said in the video posted to her Instagram Stories. “I don’t know what I’m even saying, guys. I just want to be so honest. I know I seem positive sometimes, but it’s very hard to be positive.”

She added, “I was very much looking forward to, like, the end of the year kind of being my final push and then it’s smooth sailing,” she said in the clip. “You know, like, treatment’s working, things are good. Instead, it’s like I’m hurting my liver, I’m lowering my dose of medication, I’ve postponed my surgery, which I haven’t even talked about yet.”

Katie Thurston Details ‘Mentality’ Going Into Stage 4 Cancer Treatment

Thurston previously shared via a September 19 Instagram post that was planning to get a double mastectomy “in November.”

In April 2025, Thurston also opened up about having “moments” when feels like she’s dying following her diagnosis.

“I think that comes from reading from other people’s experiences. Just like others, there’s just a lot of unknown. People just aren’t experienced with cancer,” Thursto, said during an April 17, appearance on the “Uncomfortable Conversations” video series with host Emmanuel Acho. “You usually hear stage 4, you hear that it’s spread to the liver, and I think automatically people think you have a short time to live.”

Extended Cut of Taylor Swift’s ‘Tonight Show’ Episode With Jimmy Fallon Airs

Fans who didn’t want to miss a moment of Taylor Swift on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are in luck.

Days after the pop superstar’s Monday, October 6, appearance on the late night show, NBC aired the extended cut of her interview with host Jimmy Fallon as its own special episode on Friday, October 10.

<

p class=”p1″>While a shorter version of the episode showed part of Swift’s in-depth appearance, some segments were left on the cutting room floor due to time constraints but later uploaded online. This extended cut bundled together the previously cut footage then it was aired as a special encore episode on Friday that featured more of what the singer had to say.

One part that did not originally air in the shortened version of the Tonight Show was Swift, 35, clearing up why she has no plans to perform as a Super Bowl halftime act.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl’ Interviews: Everything She’s Revealed So Far

Jay-Z has always been very good to me,” Swift said. “Our teams are very close. They sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about…?’ And that’s not an official offer or a conference room conversation. We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”

She went on to explain that she was fully focused on her fiancé, Travis Kelce, when she attends NFL games and wants her attention to be on that.

“Can you imagine if, like, he’s out there every single week putting his life on the line doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be. I think we should do two verses of ‘Shake It Off’ into ‘Blank Space’ into ‘Cruel Summer.’”

Swift visited The Tonight Show to discuss her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, though her wide-ranging conversation with Fallon, 51, also touched on her engagement to Kelce.

“He’s just my favorite person I’ve ever met — no offense to everyone else,” she gushed. “But the fact that this is the person that I get to hang out with every day forever … that’s the whole thing of it. You look at [the ring] and you’re like, ‘I get to hang out with him forever,’ and this represents that.”

Swift also confirmed that Kelce, 36, proposed after she recorded her “New Heights” debut.

“I think, for Travis, the podcast was just sort of a distraction, sort of a ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,” she explained, revealing that he had “blackout drapes on every single window of the whole house.”

All the Records Taylor Swift’s ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Has Broken — So Far

At the time, Swift was thrown off by Kelce’s apparent nerves about their joint podcast appearance.

“I kinda realized that he’s walking around sorta nervous about the podcast, [saying], ‘My heart is racing. … I know how much this means to you. I just really want this to be what you’d hoped it would be.’ Because we’d been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album,” she shared. “And he’s like, ‘My heart’s just racing.’ I’ve never seen this dude nervous. Ever. He’s professionally not a nervous person.”

After they finished recording, Kelce asked Swift, “Do you wanna go and just walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine?” to which she replied, “I’m always gonna wanna do that.”

Everything We Learned From Taylor Swift’s ‘Release Party’: Easter Eggs, More

When Swift saw Kelce’s “secret garden” setup outside, she realized “why all the windows were curtained and why he was nervous.”

She added, “It was the best possible-case scenario.”

Elsewhere in her Tonight Show appearance, Swift debunked online rumors about herself, including that she joked about her friend Selena Gomez beating her to the altar at the actress’ September wedding to Benny Blanco.

Taylor Swift’s Suggestive ‘Wood’ Lyrics Surprise Other Stars: Best Reactions

“I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” she insisted. “No one wants you to be like, ‘Hey, I know this is your wedding day but … ’ I was like, ‘Don’t mention it.’”

Swift also spoke to Fallon about her process when writing songs like “Wood” for her Life of a Showgirl album.

“I brought this into the studio and I was like, ‘I wanna do sort of like a throwback kind of timeless-sounding song,’” she recalled. “And I had this idea about, ‘I ain’t gotta knock on wood,’ and I would knock on wood and it would be all these superstitions. And it really started out in a very innocent place.”

She then joked of the spicy lyrics, “I don’t know what happened, man. I got in there, we started vibing and I don’t know, I don’t know how we got here. But I love the song so much.”

Ashley Tisdale Reacts to DWTS’ Stars Performing ‘High School Musical’ Dance

Dancing With The Stars competitors Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold busted a move to High School Musical’s  “Bop to the Top” this week – and now Ashley Tisdale is weighing in.

Tisdale, who famously performed the song as her character Sharpay in the Disney movie, took to TikTok on Friday, October 10, to share her take on the reality TV show recreation.

The social media clip showed the singer sitting on a bed as she watched the performance by Hoying, 34, and Arnold, 20, on her phone while being filmed by an unknown person.

“Oh my God, they actually did the dance moves,” Tisdale, 40, said as she shared her reaction. “There’s some moves that they’re doing and some moves that are obviously ballroom stuff…”

Lucas Grabeel Says Ashley Tisdale Was ‘So Sharpay’ on ‘High School Musical’

While Tisdale was impressed that the pair followed many of the same choreographed moves from the actual movie, she did admit it was strange hearing a version of  “Bop to the Top”  that wasn’t performed by her.

“It’s weird hearing someone else sing it though,” Tisdale confessed.

Pentatonix singer, Hoying, and his dance partner, Arnold, took on the challenge of dancing salsa to the famous song as part of Dancing With The Stars’ Disney Night.

For their efforts, they scored 21 out of 30 points from the judges. It was enough to keep them in the competition. Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko were ultimately eliminated from the show.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Hoying seemingly subtly embodying the High School Musical character Ryan Evans (the brother of Tisdale’s Sharpay Evans) throughout the DWTS episode.

A TikTok user shared a post pointing out that Hoying could be seen wearing a different hat in the background of each of his fellow contestants’ post-dance interviews. The viewer suggested this is likely a nod to Ryan Evans, who wore similar hats in the High School Musical films.

Tisdale starred in all three High School Musical films, which were released in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively.  She also portrayed the character in subsequent spinoff, 2011’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure.

Despite being grateful for the gig, Tisdale has been open in the past about not necessarily wanting to reprise her role as Sharpay any time soon.

Lindsay Arnold Says Scott Hoying Showed ‘So Much Improvement’ on ‘DWTS’

“I just feel like I wouldn’t be able to really do that again and give it justice,” she told Entertainment Tonight in August 2021.

Tisdale told the outlet that she was concerned about ruining the magic of her original stint as the character and she didn’t want to disappoint fans.

“I think at that moment in time, I was very unaware of myself and my surroundings, and I feel like that’s a big part of Sharpay,” Tisdale explained. “She is just not really aware, and so as I grew up and became more aware, I think that it’s just something that it wouldn’t be the same.”

Tisdale added, “It’s so good, and it’s like, for me, I would hate to ruin something that is perfect for that moment, and yeah, I don’t think I could go back to it.”

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

James Van Der Beek Regrets Not Being the Dad He Wants to Be Amid Cancer

James Van Der Beek revealed his biggest parenting regret amid his cancer battle as she shared a new reflective social media post.

The actor celebrated his son Jeremiah in a tribute post uploaded via Instagram on Friday, October 10 to mark the child’s 4th birthday, while apologizing for not being a better father amid his health struggles.

“4 years old today. After 2 late-term losses, we thought we were done. Thank God you knew better,” James, 48, wrote alongside a carousel of photos of Jeremiah, including one where the child was perched atop the actor’s shoulders.

James paid tribute to Jeremiah’s lively personality in the heartfelt post.

James Van Der Beek Reveals His Dad Moved In to Help During Cancer Treatment

“An iron will combined with an innate sweetness. And ALL boy. And as you run around and scream and bang things… all I can think about is how grateful I am that you came to us,” he wrote. “You’ve been particular from the jump. And as your language skills have finally caught up the specificity of your desires, what I’m seeing is a fun-loving, passionate soul who doesn’t think twice about speaking up for exactly what he wants. And for that example, I thank you.”

Continuing the post, the Dawson’s Creek alum then shared that he felt he hasn’t lived up to the standard of father that he believed his son deserved.

“I’m sorry there have been spells where I couldn’t be the father I would want to be for you… where I was too weak to pick you up, throw you around, or even put you to bed… but know that watching you reveal yourself to us has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” he added. “And even though you’re stingy with the hugs… when you do decide to wrap those thick little arms around my neck, it’s like time has stood still and all is right with the world.”

James concluded, “I love you, bubba. And I always will. And all you ever have to do is be you. Happy birthday, my ‘big little boy.’ ❤️”

Katie Holmes, who costarred alongside James in Dawson’s Creek in the 90s, reacted in the comments.

“Sooooooo sweet!!!!!!!” the actress, 46, wrote.

Jeremiah is the youngest of six kids who James shares with his wife Kimberly. The couple also share Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 8 and Gwendolyn, 6. James and Kimberly have also been open in the past about suffering pregnancy losses in November 2019 and June 2020, which James referenced in the post.

James Van Der Beek’s Wife Kimberly Sends Sweet Message After Cancer Reveal

The Varsity Blues star announced in November 2024 that he had been diagnosed with stage III colorectal cancer.

“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he told People at the time, adding, “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”

In a video interview for the outlet, James touched on the effect his diagnosis has had on his kids.

“My kids have been so supportive and so loving and so tender,” he said. “And you hate to watch them have to grow up in that way but you watch them really put you first, which, as a father, is, like, heartwarming and also devastating.”

How Sarah’s Assault on ‘The Rainmaker’ Changes the Rest of the Season

The Rainmaker‘s Madison Iseman broke down how Sarah’s assault will have a lasting impact on her journey.

During an October episode of the USA Network series, Sarah continued to explore her connection with Brad (Wade Briggs) after her split from Rudy (Milo Callaghan). Things were going well until Brad started to choke Sarah during sex without her consent.

“It’s a very important moment in Sarah’s story. Finally [earlier in the episode], we see Sarah start to gather more information that she hasn’t had. Rudy has had a plethora of information. Sarah is being fed information from Rudy, being fed information from her law firm. At the same time she’s being manipulated and being told [in the workplace],” Iseman, 28, exclusively told Us Weekly. “She’s at a crossroads at this moment, where she starts to gain all this information.”

Sarah’s experience at work ultimately played a role in her personal life.

NBC Fall Schedule for New, Returning Shows: ‘The Voice’ and More

“With Brad, there’s a bit of a power play where she knows she’s a small fish woman in a male-led law firm. She knows her place and she knows what she needs to do to get on top. Some people might have an issue with that but I think she’s smart and she wants to win,” Iseman explained. “In the same way that Brad is playing her, she’s playing Brad a bit. In the beginning [at least] and then they start to help each other out. She starts to lean into it and starts to trust him — especially when Rudy starts to fall off and their relationship falls to shambles.”

She continued: “She finally falls under Brad’s spell after he’s giving her all the information that she’s asked for. But then there’s that one episode where he flips a switch and we see his true colors. At that moment, she knows enough information where she probably should leave the case and leave the law firm. But I think at that moment she knows if she goes then Brad wins.”

How Sarah's Assault on 'The Rainmaker' Changes the Rest of the Season

Ahead of the season finale, Iseman teased where Sarah goes from here.

“After this assault takes place, she’s not willing to let him win. Maybe there’s a world in the show where if this never happened — if Brad never assaulted Sarah — she would maybe go,” she noted. “She would maybe pick the high road and she would maybe say, ‘No, this is not for me.’ But because of the position Brad puts her in, she’s not willing to back down and not willing to let these toxic men win and so she’s going to pick the dark side and manipulate the manipulator.”

Based on John Grisham‘s 1995 novel of the same name, The Rainmaker follows young lawyer Rudy, who is fired from his prestigious white-collar firm and signs on with small-time ambulance chaser Bruiser. Rudy subsequently faces off against his former boss in court. The book was adapted into a movie by Francis Ford Coppola in 1997 starring Mickey Rourke and Matt Damon.

Fall 2025 TV Schedule: See When Your Favorite Shows Will Air

USA Network’s version of The Rainmaker features several changes from the book and movie — including more screen time devoted to characters including Sarah.

“When I first read for Sarah, I very much knew who she was in the beginning of the show. I felt very, very close to her. As I read episode to episode, I was just so impressed by the complexity of her character and what she goes through,” Iseman shared with Us. “It’s very interesting to tap into young women who make questionable decisions even though some people might disagree with a lot of the decisions that Sarah makes.”

She added: “As an actor, those are the stories that are more fun to tell. I like trying to find this young and innocent woman who’s so naive about life and the world of law and justice and where the corruption takes her and why she makes the decisions that she does. Even from episode 1. I was able to start spreading the seeds of why she does what she does.”

The Rainmaker airs on USA Network Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.

Meghan Markle has shared a lighthearted private moment between her and her husband Prince Harry.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Friday, October 10, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared a behind-the-scenes clip of the pair interacting backstage at the Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala. The event was held on Thursday in New York City.

“Happy World Mental Health Day… to the man who always keeps me laughing,” Meghan wrote via the post.

The short, black-and-white clip showed Meghan laughing at a joke told by Harry, 41.  Meghan chose Sylvie Vartan’s song “Baby, c’est vous” to accompany the post.

Meghan and Harry’s relationship has been under the spotlight since they began dating in 2016 and subsequently announced their engagement the following year.

The former “Suits” actress first spoke about her romance with Harry in an interview with Vanity Fair in September 2017.

“We’re a couple. We’re in love,” she gushed to the magazine at the time. “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Hawks raid President Ramaphosa’s nephew over multi-million Rand tender

…..Public outrage grows as allegations of corruption surface amid ANC scrutiny

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-The Hawks have raided the house of Hangwane Maumela, the nephew of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, in Sandton.

Hangwane Maumela is reported to have received a tender worth R350 million at Tembisa Hospital, raising questions about the award process.

The raid has sparked widespread reactions among citizens, many expressing anger over perceived corruption in government.

Some online commentators remarked, “Our votes make them billionaires of corruption,” highlighting frustration with the ANC’s governance.

Others pointed out the stark contrast between public hardship and the wealth allegedly enjoyed by a few, saying, “Wow, some people are living in paradise.”

Certain reactions, written in local languages, reflected disbelief and cynicism, including phrases like “E tlo fela mo moyeng o ka se direge selo” and “Bhedhere tronko,” expressing that justice may take time.

Some users added, “Tronk toe gaan,” a direct call for accountability and legal action against those involved.

The president himself famously denied knowing his nephew, a claim that continues to draw skepticism and social media humor, with users remarking, “Hehehe, South Africa.”

Other commentators referenced public figures with similar scandals, saying, “Neh Mkhwanazi o bakile sebokuboku,” noting that corruption allegations are widespread and not isolated.

The unfolding investigation by the Hawks is being closely watched, as South Africans demand transparency and accountability in the awarding of large government contracts.

The case underscores the broader challenges of governance, ethics, and public trust in the ANC-led administration, as citizens push for meaningful anti-corruption measures.
