Political reactions deepen over Kamuzu Palace damage allegations

…..Analyst urges DPP to focus on real national challenges rather than political blame games

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Debate continues to intensify over reports of property damage at Kamuzu Palace following former President Lazarus Chakwera’s relocation from the State House.

While many Malawians are still expressing mixed reactions to the alleged destruction, political analyst George Chisoka has urged the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) not to dwell too much on the issue.

Speaking to various media outlets, Chisoka said government properties, such as official residences, can always be maintained or repaired when necessary.

He further pointed out that Malawi already has other official presidential residences, including Sanjika Palace, where President Peter Mutharika can currently reside if there are maintenance works being done at Kamuzu Palace.

“I believe the DPP should not overly politicize such issues,” Chisoka stated.

“Malawians are waiting for solutions to real problems, such as timely access to affordable fertilizer, quality education, and the provision of free meals for tertiary students,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has continued to reject allegations that its members were responsible for any damage at Kamuzu Palace.

The party insists that former President Chakwera left the residence in perfect condition when he vacated it.

MCP senior member Baba Steven Malondera has accused the DPP of exaggerating the situation, claiming the opposition is only trying to create unnecessary controversy as a means to justify public spending on the State House renovations.

Furthermore, the MCP, through a letter signed by its spokesperson Jessie Kabwila, has demanded that the Times Group newspaper issue an apology to the party.

The letter claims that the media house published “false and misleading information” regarding the alleged destruction at Kamuzu Palace.

As tensions rise, the issue continues to dominate public discourse, highlighting the fragile intersection between politics, accountability, and national priorities in Malawi’s governance landscape.

From bloom to harvest: The Mutharika family’s garden of inclusive leadership

In the vibrant landscape of Malawi’s political garden, the Mutharika family has tended a unique and flourishing branch — the appointment of female vice presidents, a practice that seems to have blossomed into a secret formula for the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) electoral triumphs.

Like a river carving its way through the rugged terrain, this tradition of elevating women to such pivotal roles flows steadily, shaping the contours of Malawi’s political destiny in ways both subtle and profound.

The first seed in this garden was planted by the late Bingu wa Mutharika with the appointment of Joyce Banda as vice president.

At a time when the political soil was often rocky and resistant to change, this act was akin to planting a rare, resilient flower that defied the harsh winds of convention.

Joyce Banda, a woman of strength and vision, grew into her role with a grace that inspired many, her presence signaling a fresh breeze of inclusivity sweeping through the corridors of power.

This was not merely a political appointment; it was a declaration, a vibrant brushstroke on the canvas of Malawi’s democracy, painting a future where leadership was not confined by gender.

The metaphor of a garden continues as Peter Mutharika, following in his predecessor’s footsteps, appointed Jane Ansah as vice president.

This act was like nurturing a sapling in fertile ground, a gesture that reaffirmed the family’s commitment to gender inclusivity and leadership diversity.

Jane Ansah, with her firm resolve and dignified presence, stood as a beacon, much like a lighthouse guiding ships through turbulent seas. Her appointment illuminated the path towards a more balanced and representative political structure, one where the voices of women were not just heard but amplified.

This tradition of appointing female vice presidents by the Mutharikas can be seen as a powerful current in Malawi’s political river, shaping the landscape by carving out new channels of opportunity and representation.

It is a secret formula, indeed, but not one hidden in the shadows; rather, it is a carefully cultivated garden that invites all to witness and partake.

The DPP’s landslide victories, in this light, are not merely the result of political strategy or campaign rhetoric but are deeply rooted in this symbolic and substantive act of inclusion.

The political arena, often compared to a battlefield, here becomes a stage where the Mutharika family’s choices introduce a dance of progress and tradition.

The appointment of female vice presidents is like weaving golden threads into the fabric of governance, creating a tapestry that is richer, more vibrant, and more reflective of the nation’s diverse tapestry.

It challenges the conventional narrative that leadership is a male dominion and instead celebrates the strength that comes from embracing all voices.

Moreover, this practice transcends mere symbolism. It plants seeds of hope in the hearts of young girls and women across the country, showing them that the highest echelons of power are not beyond their reach.

It is as if the Mutharikas have opened a window in a towering fortress, letting light flood in and reveal new horizons.

This act of empowerment is a gentle yet powerful wind that carries the fragrance of possibility far beyond the immediate political victories.

In the grand symphony of Malawi’s political journey, the inclusion of female vice presidents by the Mutharika family plays a melodious tune — one that resonates with themes of courage, progress, and unity.

It is a tune that drowns out the discordant notes of exclusion and inequality, replacing them with harmonies that celebrate the strength found in diversity.

The DPP’s electoral success is the applause that follows this performance, an acknowledgment by the electorate of the value embedded in this inclusive vision.

This approach also serves as a mirror reflecting the evolving societal values within Malawi.

Just as a river mirrors the changing skies above, the political landscape reflects the growing recognition of women’s roles not just as supporters but as leaders.

The Mutharikas, by appointing female vice presidents, have positioned themselves as architects of this reflection, shaping the image of governance in a way that aligns with the aspirations of a modern, forward-looking Malawi.

Furthermore, the metaphor of a garden is apt in illustrating the nurturing aspect of leadership.

The Mutharikas’ appointments are like the careful tending of soil, the watering of roots, and the providing of sunlight — essential elements that allow leadership to bloom in its fullest form.

This nurturing creates a fertile environment where ideas can grow, voices can rise, and the nation can flourish under the shade of inclusive governance.

It is also important to recognize the courage embedded in these appointments.

In a political climate where tradition can often be a thick forest, the decision to appoint female vice presidents is like cutting a new path through dense underbrush, forging a trail for others to follow.

This path is illuminated by the examples of Joyce Banda and Jane Ansah, who have not only held their positions with dignity but have also inspired a generation to believe in the power of representation.

The DPP’s landslide victories can thus be understood as the harvest reaped from this carefully cultivated garden of inclusivity.

These victories are not merely numerical triumphs but are symbolic of a deeper, more meaningful change within Malawi’s political soul.

They represent the electorate’s embrace of a leadership style that values diversity, inclusion, and the breaking of traditional barriers.

The Mutharika family’s unique tradition of appointing female vice presidents is much more than a political tactic; it is a poetic narrative woven into the fabric of Malawi’s democracy.

It is a garden where resilience and hope grow side by side, a river that shapes the land of political possibility, and a melody that sings of progress and unity.

This secret formula, enriched with metaphorical beauty and figurative depth, stands as a testament to the power of inclusive leadership — a power that has not only propelled the DPP to electoral success but also planted the seeds for a brighter, more equitable future for all Malawians.

FIFA fines Equatorial Guinea for failing to honour World Cup qualifier against Malawi

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has fined the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation CHF 10,000 (approximately MK22 million) for failing to show up for their World Cup qualifying match against Malawi’s Flames last Thursday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

According to a statement released by FIFA, Equatorial Guinea breached competition regulations after their team failed to arrive in Malawi for the scheduled fixture.

As a result, the governing body has awarded Malawi a 3–0 victory, in line with international football rules that grant automatic points and goals to the team ready to play when the opponent defaults.

Reports indicate that the Equatorial Guinea squad refused to travel to Malawi following disagreements over the team’s travel arrangements.

Players reportedly objected to last-minute changes in the flight schedule after team officials altered their departure time from Thursday morning to the afternoon.

The players argued that the new schedule would have left them with little time to rest and prepare for the crucial qualifier.

Despite efforts by officials to resolve the standoff, the players maintained their stance, leading to the team’s failure to depart.

The incident sparked outrage among fans in Equatorial Guinea, who accused their football association of poor planning and lack of professionalism.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has welcomed FIFA’s decision, saying it reflects fairness and adherence to football governance standards.

“We are pleased with FIFA’s ruling. Malawi was ready to play, and all logistical arrangements were in place. This decision reinforces the importance of discipline and commitment in international football,” said a FAM(Gomezan Zakazaka).

Sports Enock Banda have described the fine as a warning to other nations about the consequences of poor coordination in international tournaments.

They noted that the ruling not only compensates Malawi but also protects the integrity of the World Cup qualifiers.

Equatorial Guinea now faces pressure to improve its administrative efficiency and restore player confidence as FIFA continues to monitor the situation.

The country could face stiffer sanctions if similar incidents occur in the future.

Christ-Citadel International Church to celebrate Malawi Veep Jane Ansah’s 70th birthday

……Thanksgiving service to honor the Vice President’s lifetime of faith, leadership, and national service

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Christ-Citadel International Church will this Saturday, 11th October 2025, host a special Thanksgiving Worship Service and Celebration in honor of Reverend Jane Ansah, Malawi’s Veep, as she celebrates her 70th birthday.

The highly anticipated event will be held at the church’s headquarters in Area 47, Lilongwe.

The celebration is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM and is expected to draw church members, government officials, family, and well-wishers from across the country.

The occasion is more than a birthday celebration — it is a moment of reflection and gratitude for Reverend Dr. Ansah’s remarkable life of service and devotion.

It aims to recognize her significant contributions to the nation, her dedication to public service, and her deep-rooted commitment to Christian ministry.

Reverend Dr. Ansah has served Malawi in various distinguished capacities over the years.

Her public service career has been marked by integrity, excellence, and a strong sense of duty.

She is widely respected for her leadership and for breaking barriers in both the legal and political spheres.

As a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeal and Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, she played a pivotal role in shaping Malawi’s governance and upholding the rule of law.

Her transition from the judiciary to the office of Vice President reflects her continued desire to serve her country in new and meaningful ways.

Within the Christian community, Ansah has also made a lasting impact.

As a minister of the gospel, she has consistently emphasized the importance of faith, humility, and servant leadership.

Her life serves as a testimony of unwavering belief and a reminder that true leadership is rooted in moral conviction.

In a statement, the Christ-Citadel International Church and the family of the General Overseer, Bishop Dr. Joseph A. Ansah, described the event as a time of thanksgiving to God for Reverend Dr. Ansah’s life and service.

They expressed gratitude for her many years of faithful ministry, selfless leadership, and steadfast dedication to the work of God.

The church said the celebration will also highlight the values that have defined Reverend Dr. Ansah’s journey — discipline, compassion, and an unshakable faith in God’s providence.

Members of the congregation and invited guests have been encouraged to attend the service in white attire.

The color white has been chosen to symbolize purity, thanksgiving, and divine grace.

The atmosphere is expected to be filled with worship, praise, and heartfelt tributes reflecting on Dr. Ansah’s contributions both to the church and to the nation.

The Thanksgiving Worship Service will feature special music performances, testimonies, and moments of reflection on her journey through public life and ministry.

Friends, colleagues, and family members are expected to share messages of appreciation, recounting how her mentorship and leadership have inspired others.

Many view this celebration as an opportunity not only to honor her personal milestone but also to recognize her as a national figure whose influence spans governance, faith, and community development.

Ansah’s 70th birthday celebration comes at a time when Malawi continues to look up to leaders who embody integrity, resilience, and vision.

Her story continues to inspire generations of Malawians, especially women, to pursue excellence in both spiritual and professional spheres.

Christ-Citadel International Church has emphasized that the occasion will not only celebrate a leader but also glorify God for His faithfulness throughout her life.

For the church, this moment represents a collective expression of gratitude — both for Ansah’s seven decades of life and for her tireless work in promoting good governance and moral leadership.

As the nation’s Vice President and a servant of God, Ansah stands as a symbol of perseverance, wisdom, and grace.

Her 70th birthday celebration at Christ-Citadel International Church is set to be a profound reminder that true greatness is found in faith, humility, and service to others.

Through worship, thanksgiving, and joyful celebration, those attending will not only honor her life but also reaffirm the values she has exemplified — faith in God, dedication to duty, and love for Malawi.

The day promises to be one of spiritual joy, national pride, and heartfelt reflection on a life well lived and devoted to God and country.

Buck and Eddie’s Friendship Timeline: New Season 9 Roles Spark Bickering

9-1-1’s Evan “Buck” Buckley and Eddie Diaz have been a beloved duo since the show’s second season — with some fans even hoping their friendship will turn into something more.

Buck and Eddie, portrayed by Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman, respectively, became fast friends after Eddie joined the 118 during season 2. When a massive earthquake rocks Los Angeles during the first days of Eddie’s tenure, Buck drops everything to help ensure the safety of Eddie’s son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh). It’s a moment that Stark thinks cemented the duo’s friendship.

“We [see] Buck driving Eddie at the end of those episodes to go and pick up Christopher,” Stark exclusively explained to Us Weekly in 2022. “And I think that moment in itself was very meaningful. Eddie has a car he could have driven himself, but Buck was obviously wanting to extend an honest branch because of the things that they’ve been through. I think from that moment on it was pretty clear that they were willing to be a part of each other’s lives.”

Throughout the show’s six seasons, the twosome have since continued to show up for each other in both their personal and professional lives, with Buck even becoming a second father figure for Christopher. Their mutual inability to find long-lasting romance has also contributed to speculation that they are destined for more than just friendship.

Best Firefighter TV Shows: ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Fire Country,’ More

Stark, for his part, believes the pair’s popularity is due to their “fun energy” that is “equally balanced with a deeper level of understanding and being there for each other.”

“They’ve both become quite embedded in each other’s lives,” he said. “I think they’ve kind of bonded and connected on so many levels, whether it be work, their personal lives and then add in that kind of fun dynamic where they clearly do just get on well. I think it’s just a nice recipe for a good relationship, however you choose to see it.”

Keep scrolling for a full timeline of Buck and Eddie’s friendship:

They Meet

Buck and Eddie first cross paths in the season 2 episode “Under Pressure” when Eddie officially joins the 118. While Buck initially feels intimidated by the new addition to the team, the pair quickly find common ground after they partner up to take a live grenade out of a 9-1-1 caller’s leg. When Eddie calls Buck a “badass under pressure,” their friendship is born.

Pseudo Parenthood

In season 2, when Eddie struggles to find permanent assistance with taking care of Christopher, who was born with cerebral palsy, Buck introduces him to home aide Carla (Cocoa Brown), and the duo grow closer. Buck’s relationship with Chris also continues to deepen. (That will come back around later.)

A Major Disaster

In the season 3 premiere, Buck refers to Eddie as his “best friend” after he loses Christopher during a tsunami in Santa Monica. Once Chris is found, Buck becomes plagued by the guilt of having lost him in the first place until Eddie assures him that there is “there’s nobody in this world” he trusts with his son more than Buck.

Lawsuit Division

The twosome hit the first major bump in their friendship in season 3 when Buck files a lawsuit against the LAFD after Bobby (Peter Krause) orders him to undertake light duties only while recovering from injuries sustained during the tsunami. They ultimately reconcile in the episode “Monsters” when Eddie realizes that Buck never intended to hurt the 118 with his actions.

When Buck notices Eddie is still acting off, he discovers his friend has been street-fighting in order to cope with his PTSD instead of attending therapy. Buck then invites Eddie and Chris over for pizza and video games in “Fallout,” where Eddie confesses that traditional therapy might not be for him. By the end of the episode, he admits that hanging out with Buck and his son does more for him than any professional help ever could.

A Christmas Trio

A favorite moment for “Buddie” fans, season 3’s “Christmas Spirit” sees Buck crafting a plan so that Eddie can be with Christopher on Christmas Day despite having to work. Buck brings the celebration to the 118, giving them the holiday they had hoped for.

“Christmas Spirit” is the second major holiday episode with the trio, as Buck and Eddie previously took Christopher to see Santa Claus during season 2’s “Ex-Mas.” While they were there, a stranger wrongly assumed that Buck and Eddie were a couple, saying they had an “adorable son.” Buck, however, did not correct the mistake.

Almost Lost

The 15th episode of season 13, “Eddie Begins,” highlights how deeply the duo care for each other. In addition to shining a light on Eddie’s backstory, the episode sees him propelling down into the ground to help save a young boy who is stuck in a pipe. When his cord gets cut 50 feet down, Buck starts to furiously dig with his bare hands into the mud — during a torrential downpour — in order to save him. Just as Buck completely breaks down believing he’s lost his best friend, Eddie appears and is safe.

Another Close Call

Almost exactly one season later, Buck stands in shock after Eddie is shot by a sniper in the season 4 episode “Suspicion.” Buck is forced to watch as his friend bleeds out in front of him and falls into a coma. Buck later breaks down in front of Christopher, who comforts him over his own father. Once Eddie awakens, Eddie tells Buck that if anything were to ever happen to him, he would want Buck to have custody of his son.

“No one will ever fight for my son as hard as you,” Eddie tells him, noting that he drew up the papers almost a year prior. When Buck asks why Eddie is telling him now, Eddie replies, “Because, Evan, you said you wish it had been you that got shot. You act like you’re expendable. But you’re not.” (Hearing Eddie use Buck’s proper first name? Buddie fans, IYKYK.)

Buck Shows Up

Although much of season 5 feels like a bit of a drought for the Buck and Eddie fans, the pair have a major moment in the 13th episode titled “Fear-o-Phobia,” when Eddie’s PTSD causes him to break down. As he destroys his bedroom, Christopher calls Buck, who rushes to Eddie’s side.

Lightning Strikes

The tables are turned in season 6 during “In a Flash” when Eddie watches Buck get struck by lightning. As the doctors scramble to save Buck’s life, Eddie breaks down in tears and screams at them to “do more” to save his best friend.

When Buck ultimately recovers, he returns home to find his new couch uncomfortable — so he heads to Eddie’s house to stay on his couch, instead. (We’re not saying the couch is a metaphor and Buck and Eddie are soulmates, but we’re also not not saying that.)

‘9-1-1’ Cast’s Dating Histories Through the Years: Angela Bassett, More

Another Life

While Buck is in a coma during the season 6 episode “In Another Life,” he imagines what the world would be if he wasn’t at the 118. When we meet the version of Eddie who doesn’t have Buck in his life, he’s become an angry man who recently lost custody of Christopher because he couldn’t handle being a single parent and a firefighter. It’s the butterfly effect of Buck introducing Eddie to Carla in season 2, but, with Buck in his life, Eddie isn’t a single parent either way.

911 Season 7 Episode 5 Stills Show Eddie Diaz and Evan Buckleys Awkward Double Date
Ryan Guzman and Oliver Stark Disney/Chris Willard

Jealousy, Jealousy

The pair hit a rough patch in season 7, episode 4 when Buck finds himself increasingly envious of Eddie’s newfound friendship with Tommy (Louis Ferrigno Jr.). From shipping himself a basketball at work to get invited to a pickup game to lifting heavy weights without a spotter and dropping hints about his free schedule, Buck continues to spiral over Eddie’s attention. Things take a turn for the worse at a basketball game, where Buck ends up knocking Eddie to the ground and sending him to the hospital.

The final moments of the episode reveal that Buck’s jealousy actually stemmed from wanting to get close to Tommy. While Tommy reciprocates the romantic feelings, Buck is still left having to pick up the pieces after making a mess of his friendship with Eddie.

Karaoke Bros

The BFFs quickly resolve their issues when Buck candidly comes out to Eddie as bisexual. They later let loose when the pair co-plan Chimney’s (Kenny Choi) bachelor party and throw an all night hangover-inducing rager while dressed as characters from Miami Vice.

OLIVER STARK, RYAN GUZMAN

A Shoulder to Cry on

Buck shows up there for Eddie during the season 7 finale when Christopher, Eddie’s son, chooses to move to Texas with his grandparents. The decision comes after Eddie secretly starts dating someone who looks exactly like his late wife, Shannon, behind Christopher’s back.

Always Showing Up

Buck appeared at Eddie’s door during the sixth episode of season 8 after being dumped by Tommy, who claimed that he would get hurt by Buck if they kept dating. The pair cracked open beers in silence to the tune of Risky Business’ “Old Time Rock and Roll” as Buck nursed his heartbreak. Oh, and did we mention Eddie wasn’t wearing any pants?

Saying Goodbye

Buck did not handle Eddie’s news that he would be selling his place and moving back to Texas to repair his relationship with Christopher well, going as far as to adopt a dog the team rescued on a call in season 8, episode 9. After accidentally breaking news of Eddie’s move to the rest of the team, Buck makes it up to him by secretly applying to become the new subletter of his house. The two share an emotional goodbye in season 8, episode 10, with Buck sporting a look of despair as Eddie drove away with his U-Haul.

Confused Feelings

While dealing with the absence of Eddie at the 118, Buck winds up having a one-night stand with Tommy in season 8, episode 11. The morning after, Tommy remarks that he’s glad “the competition’s out of the way,” referring to Buck’s close relationship with Eddie. When Buck notes that Eddie is straight, Tommy seemingly scoffs off the comment, stating, “OK.”

The conversation leads Buck to question how his friendship with Eddie is interpreted by others, especially during a conversation in which his sister, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), straight up asks him if he’s in love with his fellow firefighter. “As much as everyone seems to want me to be hopelessly pining for my straight best friend, it just isn’t like that,” he states. After Eddie leaves for Texas, Buck continues to support him by lending him advice via FaceTime calls.

A Sad Reunion

Buck and Eddie don’t reunite in-person until Bobby’s funeral in season 8, episode 16. On top of dealing with their grief in the following episode, Buck gets upset after Eddie reveals he was offered a job at a firehouse in Texas. The tension between the two comes to a head in a heated kitchen fight, with Eddie almost taking a swing at Buck.

Buck thinks Eddie has left for good after finding a note stating he went to the airport the next day. However, Eddie returns from the airport with Christopher, using the surprise visit — and a home cooked meal from his Tía Pepa (Terri Hoyos) — as a way to make amends.

A New Normal

Season 9 kicks off with the pair slightly at odds after Eddie shifts to work as Hen’s paramedic partner on the 118 team. As Eddie and Hen click instantly as friends, Buck — now working alongside Ravi —  finds himself jealous over losing Eddie as a partner. The two spend the majority of the season 9 premiere bickering, with Buck rolling his eyes when he finds out Eddie and Hen went to see an IMAX movie together. The twosome later argue over whose idea it was to dress up as aliens and scare Hen after she’s invited on a space mission. While Buck thinks it’s “weird” that Eddie and Hen fall into step quickly, Ravi points out that it’s “not” weird at all, as they’ve all been working together “for years.”
