5 Best Drama Movies to Watch on Netflix, Ranked by IMDb Rating (October 2025)

If you’re in the mood for a gripping story, Netflix is the place to find one.

The streaming platform is suffering no shortage of drama films with riveting narratives and dynamic characters, from a divorce saga to a coming-of-age classic and more.

Films like Past Lives and Marriage Story are both sure to get the tears flowing, while Phantom Thread has more psychological drama and dry humor.

Watch With Us went through the Netflix library and plucked five of the very best drama films that the streamer has to offer, ranking them by where they fall on IMDb’s ratings chart.

5. ‘His Three Daughters’ (2023)

IMDb rating: 7.1

Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen star as three estranged siblings who are reunited to care for their ailing father in this poignant family drama from director Azazel Jacobs. Coming together in their father’s New York City apartment, where he lives with directionless, stoner stepdaughter Rachel, Katie (Coon) and Christina (Olsen) join her and find themselves rehashing open wounds that never healed, but are forced to finally confront and — hopefully — close them for good.

22 Must-Watch Drama Shows on Netflix Right Now (September 2025)

His Three Daughters puts discomforting family dynamics into sharp relief while still being a warm, heartfelt experience that will leave you reduced to a puddle of tears. Coon, Lyonne and Olsen play off one another marvelously, showcasing a very specific type of troubled sibling relationship that is at once specific and universal.

4. ‘Phantom Thread’ (2017)

IMDb rating: 7.4

Fussy, fickle dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) lives a very particular life in 1950s London, designing highly sought-after gowns for the elite both near and far. Meanwhile, Reynolds cycles through an endless stream of female suitors whom he eventually discards. A perpetual bachelor, Reynolds’ life is interrupted by the chance meeting of a humble waitress, Alma (Vicky Krieps). Fixated on and bewitched by Alma as his next muse, Alma proves to be more strong-willed than most women who catch Reynolds’ eye.

A thorny romantic period drama about a deeply unconventional romance, Day-Lewis and Krieps have remarkable chemistry. As the pair drifts alongside Johnny Greenwood’s stunning, twinkling score, director Paul Thomas Anderson crafts a filmmaking experience that is intoxicating in its progression of tension. But within what feels like an austere atmosphere is an embedded funny-bone, and the film hums happily on a wavelength of sharp, wry comedy.

3. ‘Past Lives’ (2023)

IMDb rating: 7.8

After Nora Moon’s family emigrates from South Korea in 1999, Nora (Greta Lee) is separated from her close childhood friend, Hae Sung (Teo Yoo). Years later, the two are reunited as adults but living very different lives, and Nora is married to her husband, Arthur (John Magaro). Nora and Hae Sung are suddenly confronted with the possibilities of the lives that they didn’t lead, and the reality that they are currently faced with.

A semi-autobiographical, time-hopping narrative based partly on director Celine Song’s own life, Past Lives is subtle and poetic, a gentle yet powerful look at love, loss, and missed chances. It examines heartbreak in a way that is real and thus painfully relatable. Past Lives has topped many “Best Films…” lists and was named by Christopher Nolan as a favorite of his. The film was nominated for Best Picture at the 96th Academy Awards for good reason.

Stream Past Lives on Netflix.

2. ‘Marriage Story’ (2019)

IMDb rating: 7.9

Marriage Story stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as separating couple Charlie and Nicole Barber. A partly autobiographical film based on director Noah Baumbach’s own fraught divorce, Marriage Story was instantly acclaimed upon its release and was nominated for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards, with Laura Dern winning for her supporting performance as Nicole’s lawyer, Nora.

Stage director Charlie and actress Nicole endure a bi-coastal divorce, troubled by custody issues involving their young son, Henry (Azhy Robertson). As the process becomes increasingly agitated, both parties are pushed to extremes in their personal and creative lives. Anchored by fantastic performances and rich character writing, Marriage Story is a compelling and unflattering portrait of romantic deterioration.

Stream Marriage Story on Netflix.

1. ‘Stand by Me’ (1986)

IMDb rating: 8.1

This classic adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name follows a group of four Oregon boys who go searching for the body of a missing boy their age. But their simple quest, spurred by their shared macabre curiosity, turns into a pivotal moment in their young lives, as they learn more about one another and where they each really come from.

A staple of coming-of-age cinema, Stand By Me features impressive child performances from Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and River Phoenix. It has been hailed as a fitting King adaptation, hitting hard on the pains of growing up while being wise beyond the years of its characters. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and many still consider it one of the best films of the ’80s.

‘Monster: Ed Gein Story’ Features ‘Tracker’ Alum After Multiple Cast Exits

Tracker fans still coming to terms with Justin Hartley‘s show facing multiple cast exits will be excited to see one of the former stars in Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

During season 3 of Ryan Murphy‘s anthology series, which premiered on Friday, October 3, Ed Gein (Charlie Hunnam) dates Adeline Watkins (Suzanna Son) despite his mother Enid Watkins (Robin Weigert) disapproving of their relationship. Later in the show, Enid recalls throwing herself down the stairs multiple times while pregnant because she didn’t want to give birth to Adeline.

CBS viewers might have recognized Weigert for her role as Teddi. The network found success with Tracker immediately after it premiered in February 2024 to record-breaking ratings. Viewers have since tuned in week after week to see fictional survivalist Colter (Hartley) travel the country to help solve various missing persons cases.

As Colter has gotten help, the ensemble cast has grown with characters such as handlers Teddi (Weigert) and Velma (Abby McEnany), hacker Bobby (Eric Graise) and attorney Reenie (Fiona Rene).

Which ‘Tracker’ Stars Have Left Justin Hartley’s CBS Show So Far?

After joining Tracker in season 1, Weigert’s character was written off in the premiere with her wife, Velma, admitting that they needed some distance. Velma then started working with Reenie and Teddi wasn’t discussed again in season 2.

Which Tracker Characters Are And Aren't Returning

“[Teddi] is going to be there for a while. She is helping her mom get sorted. I was getting in the way you might say and it really wasn’t good,” Velma said at the beginning of season 2. “So I came back. Don’t you worry because I am keeping busy.”

The concerns about the show’s main characters kept coming when Graise was noticeably absent from six episodes. His cousin Randy (Chris Lee) was brought in to help Colter before Bobby returned, which caused backlash from viewers who grew used to seeing Graise on their screen.

Before season 3, news broke that Graise and McEnany wouldn’t be coming back — at least for now.

Why Did ‘Tracker’ Lose 3 Cast Members Before Season 3? Shakeups Explained

“I do think it’s evolving. If I can’t evolve those characters — Randy or Reenie or Bobby — they’re not just people that just pick up the phone and go, ‘OK, here is the answer.’ That’s when the show is phoning it in,” executive producer Elwood Reid exclusively told Us Weekly in May. “The challenge is when you got to learn about them, which I thought was interesting. That’s the challenge of the show is not having it fall into a formula.”

Reid noted that they didn’t want Tracker to “fall into complacency.”

“The only rule I really have of the show is each week Colter is going to come to a new place and there’s going to be a new case. How he gets those answers and what he uses on the team, that’s all something that’s up for grabs,” Reid teased. “Meeting these [local] weird characters is something we’re going to try to do more of as the season goes on. Just Colter coming in and interacting with other characters. That’s fun to see Justin flex those muscles with really good guest cast members.”

Monster is currently streaming on Netflix. Tracker returns to CBS on Sunday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Paramount+.

Inonge Wina: The pillar behind Zambia PF’s resilience after Sata’s passing

LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-Inonge Wina’s political journey is marked by perseverance, strategic acumen, and a steadfast commitment to the Patriotic Front (PF).

Her recent reflections on the period following former President Michael Sata’s death shed light on the crucial role she played in ensuring party continuity during one of Zambia’s most politically uncertain moments.

Wina revealed that she worked day and night to stabilize the PF, demonstrating the personal sacrifices and dedication required to maintain cohesion in the face of sudden leadership voids.

She emphasized that her involvement went far beyond ordinary party duties, highlighting her hands-on engagement in preventing fragmentation and guiding party members through the turbulent transition.

Her efforts were instrumental in safeguarding the PF’s political legacy, ensuring that the party remained a coherent force capable of participating effectively in Zambia’s competitive political landscape.

Wina’s political career extends well beyond this period of crisis. As one of the most prominent female leaders in Zambia, she has served in multiple capacities, advocating for women’s empowerment, social development, and good governance.

During Sata’s tenure, she emerged as a trusted ally and strategic advisor, helping to shape policies and party strategies that strengthened PF’s appeal to Zambian voters.

Political analysts have noted that Wina’s contributions highlight the often-overlooked role of behind-the-scenes leaders whose commitment ensures continuity and stability in times of crisis.

She has consistently demonstrated the ability to navigate complex political landscapes, balancing party interests, governance responsibilities, and the expectations of a diverse electorate.

Beyond her party work, Wina’s legacy includes championing initiatives that promote education, gender equality, and social welfare, reflecting her broader commitment to national development.

Her reflections underscore a vital lesson in Zambian politics: resilient leadership is not always visible on the campaign trail but is often exercised quietly, strategically, and with enduring dedication.

In conclusion, Inonge Wina’s story is not just one of crisis management but of enduring political stewardship.

Her unwavering commitment to PF during Sata’s death, coupled with her broader contributions to Zambian politics, cements her position as a key figure in shaping the country’s political landscape.

Through her efforts, Wina exemplifies how principled, persistent, and strategic leadership can navigate transitions, safeguard institutional legacies, and inspire confidence among party members and citizens alike.

Bullets beat Silver to extend lead: 2025 TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets continued their impressive form in the ongoing 2025 TNM Super League campaign after defeating defending champions Silver Strikers 2–1 in an entertaining Week 19 fixture played at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The highly anticipated clash drew a huge crowd of passionate supporters who filled the stands to witness the battle between two of Malawi’s football powerhouses.

Both teams displayed tactical discipline in the opening half which ended goalless despite several promising chances on both ends.

Silver Strikers broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when a powerful shot from Chikondi Kamanga was initially blocked but the rebound fell kindly to Andrew Joseph whose deflected strike beat the Bullets goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu to make it 1–0.

However, the lead lasted only six minutes. Bullets equalized in the 72nd minute through Ephraim Kondowe who calmly slotted home after connecting beautifully with a clever pass from Hassan Kajoke.

The goal ignited the home crowd as Bullets pushed for a winner.

With time running out, the People’s Team turned the game on its head in the dying moments.

Chikumbutso Salima was brought down inside the box, prompting the referee to award Bullets a penalty.

Kajoke, showing great composure, stepped up and converted from the spot to seal a crucial 2–1 victory for the Bullets.

Speaking to the media after the match, Bullets head coach Peter Mponda praised his players for their resilience and adaptability.

“Silver gave us a very tough match but the boys fought hard. We tried a new tactical system today and it paid off. We are not celebrating yet but it’s encouraging that we’re still on top of the table,” said Mponda.

On the other hand, Silver Strikers coach Peter Mgangira admitted that his side was played better today but the referees were not 100% on their side but vowed to keep fighting in the title race.

“We didn’t perform to our usual standard, and we accept the defeat. There are still many games ahead, so we will keep pushing. The league is far from over,” Mgangira said.

The win cemented Bullets’ position one at the summit of the TNM Super League with 46 points from 19 matches, while Silver Strikers remain third with 36 points from 18 games.

Silver Strikers, who lifted the league title in 2024, will now look to bounce back in their next fixture while Bullets appear firmly on course to reclaim domestic dominance as the race for the 2025 championship intensifies.

5. ‘Charlotte’s Web’ (2025)

HBO Max has largely moved away from family entertainment and children’s animation, but there’s at least one more big project in that wheelhouse. The new animated adaptation of E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web will bring the classic story to life with Amy Adams as the voice of Charlotte and Elijah Wood as a pig named Wilbur.

Charlotte is a spider who feels compassion for Wilbur, and she spares him from being slaughtered by writing messages about him in her web. That makes the humans believe Wilbur is special, when it’s really the spider they should be looking at. This miniseries also has an incredible voice cast, including Cynthia Erivo, Danny Trejo, Randall Park, Keith David and Rosario Dawson. If it can recapture the magic of the novel, this could be really special.

Charlotte’s Web will stream on HBO Max on October 2.

4. ‘I Love LA’ (2025)

Pierre Choderlos de LaclosLes Liaisons dangereuses has been a popular novel for over two centuries and has been adapted numerous times. American audiences are more likely to know it as Dangerous Liaisons from the 1988 film or the 2022 TV series than anything else. This fall, HBO Max is launching a new French adaptation, which will be released in this country as The Seduction.

This period drama will maintain the 18th-century setting of the novel, with Anamaria Vartolomei as Isabelle de Merteuil, a young woman who dares to defy the cultural norms of the time in her pursuit of emotional and sexual freedom as she strives to become a courtesan. But Isabelle can’t reach that goal without making several enemies along the way.

The Seduction will stream on HBO Max on November 14.

2. ‘The Chair Company’ (2025)

Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin — the team behind Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave — are bringing their brand of cringe comedy to HBO Max. Robinson stars as William Ronald Trosper, a man who embarrasses himself at work in a very public way. Somehow, that leads William to believe that he’s uncovered a vast conspiracy.

Is William really on to something or is he losing his mind? Both might be true, but the latter seems more likely. Lake Bell costars as William’s wife, Barb Trosper, with Sophia Lillis and Will Price as their children, Natalie and Seth. It seems like a safe bet that William will find some way to embarrass his entire family before the season is over.

The Chair Company will stream on HBO Max on October 12.

1. ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ (2025)

Stephen King‘s It gets a prequel series this fall with It: Welcome To Derry. William and other Derry kids will attempt to confront this demonic clown, but the odds of their success aren’t very good.

Nigerian reverend sister Kinse Shako Annastasia in mental health struggle after dismissal from Catholic congregation, University

….Appeals for help……

ABUJA-(MaraviPost)-Kinse Shako Annastasia, a former reverend sister who was dismissed by her Catholic congregation, has revealed that she has also lost her job at the Catholic University in Abuja.

Annastasia made this disclosure on her official Facebook page on September 30, where she appealed to the public for financial support to help her manage a serious health condition and meet her daily living expenses.

Her dismissal from the Catholic University came just weeks after she was expelled by the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters (MOPHAS) in Auchi, Edo State.

The former nun said she was pursuing her master’s degree at Veritas University and was preparing to begin her thesis when she was unexpectedly dismissed from her religious congregation.

She described the decision as unjust, noting that it had left her without income, stability, or support from the institution to which she had devoted years of service.

Annastasia explained that following her expulsion, she was immediately relieved of her position as a graduate assistant at the Catholic University in Abuja, effectively leaving her unemployed.

In her Facebook post, Annastasia also revealed that she is currently struggling with a disc bulge in her lumbar spine, a condition that requires ongoing physiotherapy and medication.

She said the pain from the condition has made it difficult for her to sit, stand, or bend for extended periods, thereby preventing her from taking up any form of work at the moment.

Her statement expressed deep distress over her current circumstances, saying she is forced to rely on the generosity of well-wishers for medical care and basic needs.

She wrote, “My name is Annastasia Kinse. I was a master’s student at Veritas University, about to begin my thesis when I was unjustly dismissed from my religious congregation. As a result, I also lost my job as a graduate assistant at the Catholic University in Abuja.”

She continued, “I am currently managing a disc bulge on my lumbar spine through physiotherapy and medication. The pain makes it difficult to sit, stand, or bend for long periods, which prevents me from working at this time. I humbly appeal for assistance to cover medical treatment, basic upkeep, and to support this transition into a more reflective and sustainable way of living.”

Annastasia’s public appeal has since drawn mixed reactions across social media, with some sympathizing with her situation while others questioned the circumstances surrounding her dismissal.

One social media user, Watpe Pewat, commented that social media often turns serious appeals for help into debates with little resolution, reminding readers that the church, though not immune to scandals, remains an institution that overcomes challenges through faith.

Another user, Aladesiun Oluwatosin, suggested that Annastasia was aware of the reasons behind her dismissal and hinted that she had already received some financial support from the church following her expulsion.

Some comments were more critical, questioning Annastasia’s public approach and implying that she might have violated church protocol by airing internal matters on social media.

Others, however, called for compassion, urging fellow believers to assist her during this difficult transition, regardless of the controversies surrounding her departure from religious life.

Earlier, Annastasia had raised concerns about her personal safety, claiming that Catholic priests and a layman had harassed her following her online revelations about alleged misconduct within the clergy.

She wrote that if she ever went silent or if anything happened to her, people should know that the truth had been documented.

Her posts sparked broader discussions about transparency, accountability, and gender relations within religious institutions, with some arguing that her story reflects the difficult balance between obedience to religious authority and the right to speak out.

In conclusion, Kinse Shako Annastasia’s ordeal highlights the complex intersection of faith, institutional power, and personal struggle.

Her story has resonated with many who see it as a cautionary tale about the cost of confronting powerful institutions, while others view it as a test of resilience and faith in the face of adversity.

As she battles both physical pain and social isolation, Annastasia’s appeal for support continues to circulate online, drawing empathy, debate, and reflection on the treatment of whistleblowers within faith-based organizations.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington Has Update After Recent Diagnosis

Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington assured fans that she’s focused on “self-care” following her recent Hashimoto’s disease diagnosis.

“It’s still new to me,” Luddington, 42, told People in an interview published on Saturday, October 4. “I got the diagnosis at the beginning of summer, so I’m fresh into this journey. I am on Levothyroxine, which is a thyroid medicine, and I can tell you that a lot of things have changed.”

Luddington — who plays Dr. Jo Wilson on the ABC medical drama — announced on her Grey’s Anatomy costar Jessica Capshaw’s “Call It What It Is” podcast on August 6 that she’d recently been diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Hashimoto’s disease develops when “the immune system attacks healthy tissues,” which can cause “the death of the thyroid’s hormone-producing cells.” Frequent symptoms include fatigue and sluggishness, sleepiness, muscle weakness and aches, joint pain and stiffness, lack of concentration and depression, among others.

The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Cast’s Premiere Summary Doesn’t Soothe Fan Death Theory

Luckily, Luddington assured the outlet that her health has noticeably improved since she was officially diagnosed.

“I feel like I have so much less inflammation,” she said. “I was very puffy all the time, not knowing why I was exhausted. I was not working out. I hadn’t seen a workout class in years, and I’m back at Barry’s bootcamp lifting weights. So I feel more myself. I feel like I have more energy for work, for my family.”

The actress went on, “One thing that I couldn’t understand was I had a lot of brain fog, and now I understand that when your thyroid is sort of all over the place, that’s what that can feel like. The exhaustion of brain fog. So just literally being able to be present with whoever on set, with my family, is a huge difference.”

Luddington and her husband, Matthew Alan, share two children: daughter Hayden, 8, and son Lucas Matthew, 5.

When she first announced her diagnosis in August, the actress confirmed that some routine bloodwork helped her realize there was more to her “feeling slothy” in recent months.

“Truly, when they said ‘autoimmune disease,’ I was really freaked out, and then when they said it’s really common, I was like, ‘That sucks but OK,’” she remembered.

Luddington explained to her costar that she “knew something was up” because she was “f***ing tired all the time,” though she suspected she may have been perimenopausal.

“It makes you feel tired and cold. It can make you foggy, depressed, you can have dry skin, your hair can thin. Basically, you’re feeling gorgeous with Hashimoto’s,” she joked. “It got to the point where, by 11 a.m., it felt like I had chugged some Benadryl and I needed to nap, and it didn’t matter how much sleep I’d gotten the night before. There was no pushing through the day.”

When she finally received a diagnosis, Luddington was prescribed Levothyroxine, a medication that is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency.

What Does Scott Speedman’s New TV Role Mean for His ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Future?

“I’m still not normal,” Luddington said in August. “I do feel a lot better. My energy’s a lot better. I’m not as puffy anymore.”

Meanwhile, Luddington recently returned to Grey’s Anatomy after a summer hiatus to film the shocking season 22 premiere, where a gas tank explosion in an operating room at Grey Sloan Hospital puts the entire staff’s lives at risk.

“It was incredible. This season is bananas already. I can’t give any spoilers … it was not my favorite premiere to shoot, because it was just so traumatic for everyone involved,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in August.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays on ABC at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes are available the next day on Hulu.
