LILONGWE—(MaraviPost)-The Crocodiles of Karonga United have entered into a partnership with Superior Agri Consult, in which the organic fertilizer company will sponsor the Player of the Match accolade for the remainder of the season.

Under the agreement, Superior Agri Consult will award the outstanding player in each match K50,000 cash and a miniature trophy, according to the club’s communication.

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Superior Agri Consult, a company known for its high-quality fertilizers.

As part of this partnership, Superior Agri Consult will be awarding K50,000 to the Man of the Match in each of our games,” the statement reads in part.

Superior Agri Consult director Japheth Majekete said the sponsorship is a way of giving back to the people of Karonga.

“This partnership is a way to give back to the community and show appreciation for their loyalty,” he said.

The team’s general secretary Ramzy Simwaka praised Superior Agri Consult for the gesture, saying the incentive will motivate players to work harder on the field.

“This will go a long way in motivating our players to succeed and perform at their best,” Simwaka said.

Meanwhile, Robert Luhanga became the first recipient of the award despite his team losing 1-0 to Blue Eagles FC at Nankhaka Stadium on Sunday, October 5. Pius Saka scored the lone goal in the 71st minute.

The partnership represents a boost for Karonga United as they look to strengthen their position in the league with improved player motivation and community support.

Lake Victoria plane crash claims 19 lives: Sparks calls for stronger aviation safety standards

DODOMA-(MaraviPost)-A tragic plane crash over Lake Victoria has claimed the lives of 19 people, including two Kenyan nationals, in what aviation experts are calling one of the deadliest air disasters in the region in recent years.

The aircraft, which was en route to Bukoba Airport in Tanzania, plunged into the lake shortly before landing, shocking both local and international communities.

Eyewitnesses reported that the plane encountered difficulties moments before touchdown, with some suggesting poor visibility and severe weather conditions as contributing factors.

Rescue teams comprising local fishermen, emergency responders, and the Tanzanian Red Cross were quickly mobilized to the scene in an effort to save passengers trapped inside the partially submerged aircraft.

Despite the swift response, authorities confirmed that 19 people lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

The airline operating the flight expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, pledging to cooperate fully with aviation authorities in investigating the cause of the accident.

Tanzania’s Civil Aviation Authority has since launched a full-scale investigation to determine what went wrong and to assess whether the aircraft met all necessary maintenance and safety standards prior to the flight.

Preliminary reports suggest that adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, may have interfered with the aircraft’s approach to the airport, causing it to lose altitude rapidly.

Regional leaders, including officials from Kenya and Uganda, have extended condolences to the victims’ families, calling for greater cooperation among East African nations to improve aviation safety.

In Kenya, the deaths of two nationals have reignited public debate about regional air travel safety, with many demanding stricter oversight of smaller carriers that operate domestic and cross-border flights.

Aviation analysts argue that while Africa’s aviation industry has expanded in recent years, challenges remain in the areas of pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and air traffic control infrastructure.

The Lake Victoria tragedy has also drawn attention to the need for enhanced emergency preparedness, as rescue operations were reportedly hampered by limited equipment and communication delays.

Families of the victims have begun gathering at local hospitals and morgues, expressing frustration over the lack of timely information from authorities in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

Government officials have promised to support the affected families and ensure a transparent investigation that will help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As recovery operations continue, many are calling for a comprehensive review of regional aviation safety protocols to restore public confidence and ensure that the skies over East Africa remain safe.

The Lake Victoria plane crash stands as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for collective action to improve aviation safety across the region.

A new dawn or familiar faces? Analyzing Mutharika’s partial cabinet appointments

….Balancing experience, loyalty, and representation in Malawi’s new executive line-up

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has unveiled a new set of cabinet and official appointments, signaling both continuity and cautious renewal within his administration.

The announcement, made under Sections 94(1), 161(2), and 154(2) of the Constitution of Malawi, features a mix of political veterans and trusted technocrats intended to strengthen governance and restore confidence in state institutions.

Enock Kanzingeni Chihana’s appointment as Second Vice President of the Republic of Malawi reflects a calculated effort to embrace regional inclusivity and build bridges with northern political blocs.

George Chaponda’s return as Minister of Foreign Affairs marks the reemergence of one of Mutharika’s staunchest allies, signaling the president’s willingness to prioritize loyalty and diplomatic experience despite past controversies.

Chaponda retains Foreign Affairs Minister

Joseph Mwanamvekha’s reinstatement as Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Development demonstrates the president’s confidence in seasoned expertise to navigate Malawi’s fragile economic environment.

Mwanamveka is back as Finance Minister

Alfred Ruwan Gangata’s inclusion as Minister of State injects a sense of new dynamism into the cabinet, potentially appealing to younger voters and emerging constituencies.

Lieutenant General George Alexander Jafu’s appointment as Chief of Defence of the Malawi Defence Force underscores Mutharika’s trust in continuity, discipline, and professional command within the military.

Dr. Justin Sadack K. Saidi’s promotion to Chief Secretary strengthens administrative coordination, reaffirming the president’s faith in experienced civil service leadership.

Saidi is now Chief Secretary

Stuart Naison Medison Ligomeka, as Deputy Chief Secretary, enhances this structure by providing institutional stability and reinforcing accountability at the highest levels of public administration.

Kiswell Dakamau’s appointment as Director of State Residences highlights the president’s reliance on capable bureaucrats to uphold efficiency and order in the management of state assets.

Security-wise, the elevation of Richard Chakupaleza Chikoko Luhanga to Inspector General of Police, supported by Deputies Stain Bamusi Chaima and Mr. Mlowoka Noel Kaira, reflects an emphasis on command structure and operational efficiency within law enforcement.

Luhanga is now Inspector General of Malawi Police Service

In terms of merit, the cabinet demonstrates a deliberate blend of competence and political experience, though some critics may view the reappointment of long-serving figures like Chaponda and Mwanamvekha as a missed opportunity for generational renewal.

On gender representation, however, the cabinet remains heavily male-dominated, raising legitimate concerns over inclusivity and the government’s commitment to gender balance in key leadership positions.

Regionally, the appointments appear broadly inclusive, with representation drawn from the Northern, Central, and Southern regions, yet the South still maintains a notable dominance in key portfolios.

Politically, the appointments seem aimed at consolidating internal party cohesion and reinforcing Mutharika’s loyal base ahead of the next electoral cycle, positioning his administration for both stability and strategic continuity.

In conclusion, while the new cabinet demonstrates experience, loyalty, and regional consideration, its lack of gender diversity and limited generational renewal could challenge the government’s credibility as a reform-driven administration.

President Mutharika now faces the task of proving that this blend of old and new leadership can rise above political familiarity and deliver tangible progress for Malawians seeking lasting change.

Victoria Beckham Says Spice Girls Questions in New Doc Were ‘Triggering’

Victoria Beckham is opening up about why she agreed to make a documentary — and it involves the beloved Spice Girls.

“I’ve been defined by a four-year period in my life. That was the Spice Girls,” Beckham, 51, told The Sunday Times in an interview published on Saturday, October 4. “It’s taken me almost two decades to fight that and I feel that only now can I look back and talk about it. I’m not going to lie, being asked questions about when I was in the Spice Girls was quite triggering. And I’d say those were the most difficult moments. It was almost like therapy for me.”

Beckham (known as Posh Spice) rose to fame in the ‘90s alongside Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice). The girl group went on to take an indefinite hiatus in 2000 before later reuniting for a world tour and for a performance at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“I love the Spice Girls,” she said. “I really do. And it’s been great reflecting on that time. The other night I had dinner with Emma and Geri, and Mel B messaged me at the weekend. I still speak to all of the girls. I’m so proud of everything we did. I wouldn’t have been who I am now if it wasn’t for the Spice Girls, 100 percent.”

The outlet reported that the Netflix documentary, Victoria Beckham, will focus more on her fashion journey rather than her music career. At the time of the interview, Beckham shared that she hadn’t seen the final edit of the series but teased that no topics were off-limits.

“I mean, I touch on my family, I touch on the Spice Girls, the problems we’ve had with the business, you know, the money we’ve lost — there have been lots of triggers,” she explained. “I cried. Like I said, I haven’t seen the final edit, but yes, I did cry. It takes quite a lot to make me cry, but I did cry. You know, I’ve earned my place to show in Paris, I’ve earned the respect.”

When asked about her “biggest hurdle,” Beckham replied, “That I was just a celebrity brand. But the difference is I wanted to learn the industry, not just throw out something that might promise a return. I wanted to understand and learn my trade. I haven’t talked before about the struggles that the business has been through. We’ve all seen the headlines, but this is the first time I also talk a lot about the business journey and how it hasn’t all been easy.”

Victoria, who is married to legendary soccer star David Beckham, gushed that the couple are “really close to the kids.” (Victoria and David share sons Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 14.)

Victoria Beckham Responds to Speculation She’s a ‘Miserable Cow’

“Harper’s still 14, so she’s living at home. So is Cruz, who is 20. I see both of them every day. Romeo doesn’t live at home, so I see a little less of him,” Victoria shared.

The outlet reported that questions surrounding “speculation about a fall-out with their eldest son, Brooklyn,” would not be answered in the interview with Victoria.

The family has been at odds since David’s 50th birthday party in May, which Brooklyn and wife Nicola Peltz were absent from. A source exclusively told Us Weekly that the couple largely avoided the event to not interact with Romeo’s then-girlfriend, Kim Turnbull.

Victoria Beckham premieres on Netflix Thursday, October 9.

UFC’s Alex Pereira Expresses Condolences for Arthur Jones, Brother of Jon Jones

UFC fighter Alex Pereira had a message for fellow fighter Jon Jones and his family following the death of Jones’ late brother, Arthur Jones.

“I had a whole speech prepared tonight, and I talked to my team. But we got some news recently. Some things happened,” Pereira said through an interpreter in a post-match interview with Joe Rogan on Saturday, October 4, following his win against Magomed Ankalaev. “So, I want to give my respect to Jon Jones and his whole family, and I want to ask everyone here and everyone at home to take a moment of silence for his brother.”

Arthur died on Friday, October 3, at the age of 39. The former athlete played seven seasons in the NFL, from 2010-2017, and won Super Bowl XLVII with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. He was found dead at his home in Pompey, NY after his defibrillator went off on Friday.

His brother Jon, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and Arthur’s younger brother, responded to Pereira’s post-fight statement with a post on his X account on Saturday.

“Wow Alex,” Jones said in his post on X.

Pereira’s statement was followed by a brief moment of silence from the crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, before Pereira celebrated his light heavyweight championship victory.

Pereira reclaimed his title at UFC 320 on Saturday with an 80-second knockout of Ankalaev, a rematch of their match at UFC 313 in March where Ankalaev defeated Pereira in a five-round battle.

During the ramp up to Saturday’s rematch, Pereira’s team told the media he fought in that March fight while dealing with injuries and was operating at about 40 percent.

“Vengeance is never a good thing; it’s kind of a poison sometimes,” Pereira said to ESPN on Saturday through an interpreter. “I told everyone I was not in a good condition last time. Everyone saw that tonight.”

The sports community joined Pereira in mourning the late Arthur Jones over the weekend, with former teammates and other MMA fighters chiming in on social media.

“RIP to my brother Arthur Jones,” wrote former Ravens teammate Torey Smith on his X account on Saturday. “Yesterday was shocking and another reminder that life is short. We lost a great man and father.”

Smith and Arthur played together on the Super Bowl XLVII championship Ravens team.

MMA fighter Conor McGregor also posted his statement on X on Friday.

“Very sad to hear this news, Arthur was a great man, a friendly giant,” McGregor said in his post. “God speed Arthur Jones.”

Former NFL defensive back Darius Butler, who played with Arthur on the Indianapolis Colts in 2016, also posted on X on Friday.

“Rest in peace big fella!” Butler said. “I’m going to miss our random check ins and laughs about who knows what. Arthur Jones you will be MISSED.”

Arthur was drafted by the Ravens in 2010 and played in 64 NFL games throughout his seven-year career, recording 99 tackles, two forced fumbles and 10 sacks, including a sack in the Super Bowl XLVII victory.
