Inside Boston Blue’s Challenges Over Donnie Wahlberg’s Onscreen Son’s Romance

Boston Blue just introduced a love interest for Sean — and the romance will continue to create obstacles for the youngest Reagan and dad Danny.

During the Friday, November 21, episode of the hit CBS series, Sean (Mika Amonsen) had an unconventional meet cute with Penny (Xochitl Gomez), who turned out to have a criminal record. Sean’s father, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), specifically wasn’t thrilled with the concept of his son dating a felon.

While Danny came around by the end of the episode, the new woman in Sean’s life could cause more tension for the Reagans.

“As Danny says, ‘That crook.’ He loves that line,” Amonsen quipped during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. “But we have our challenges. I will let viewers continue to tune in to see where it goes and if Penny returns.”

Boston Blue’s Recasting of Donnie Wahlberg’s Son From ‘Blue Bloods’ Explained

According to a CBS press release, Gomez, 19, will guest star as Penny in multiple episodes of the Blue Bloods spinoff.

“She’ll be around and her relationship with Sean — it continues to expand,” Amonsen teased. “Danny and Sean’s relationship challenges them but I think it challenges Sean in a way as well. It feels like a first serious girlfriend for him and he learns a little bit of work and life balance.”

Boston Blue, which premiered in October, invests in Danny’s story after he was originally introduced on Blue Bloods, which ran from 2010 to 2024. The spinoff has also allowed more of a focus on Danny’s relationship with son Sean, which he is working to rebuild throughout the season.

“You’re going to see the pushback in different ways [from Danny’s side]. But you eventually see Danny recognize that his son is a full-grown man. Even when there is something that Danny disagrees with, you’re going to see him recognize that he just wants his son to be happy,” Amonsen continued. “There’s only so much Danny can impose — and Sean is at an age where he is making his own decisions.”

He added: “Regardless of Danny’s opinion, he takes a deep breath and says, ‘I just want you to be happy.’ That happens in several different ways throughout the season. We see a lot of Danny growing in opposition to Sean also growing. We see Danny really expand as a character.”

Having Danny and Sean’s reconciliation be so central to the show has allowed Amonsen and Wahlberg, 56, to put in the work on screen.

“The process has all been very, very easy. Donnie just makes it so simple. I had a pretty good understanding of the character [that was created in Blue Bloods] and I brought that and I spoke to the showrunners and writers about it,” he recalled. “[We discussed what they wanted to be] explored and where they wanted to go with the role.”

Amonsen and Wahlberg prioritized the dynamic between Danny and Sean. “Donnie was very informative — obviously — because he has so much history with the show,” he added. “Whenever I had questions, it was very, very relaxed and it felt very natural with Donnie. He has this father-like energy about him. As much as he’s been Sean’s father, he’s been a great mentor to me on how to navigate a role like this and a show like this. I couldn’t ask for a better costar.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Family Guide: Meet the Reagans Amid ‘Boston Blue’ Spinoff

The positive experience didn’t stop there. Amonsen has been able to grow Sean as a character through his work as a patrol officer alongside Marcus Scribner‘s Jonah.

“Working with Marcus is as fun as it looks on screen. He is amazing. That genuine friendship that you see between Jonah and Sean is us in real life. We hang out on our downtime and we are constantly joking around off screen. We had a really great time,” Amonsen shared. “He felt like a brother on this show. As a character, I feel like they’re more than friends because you see this brotherhood between them.”

He continued: “You will see as they navigate these difficult situations and they’re really there for each other in a way that almost feels beyond friendship. It is just what the job is — a partnership. They have a really amazing partnership where they’re always showing up for each other.”

For Amonsen, the highlight of playing Sean has been getting the “freedom to explore” who the character is now.

“My dad was a fan of the show and we’d watched it several times. But I hadn’t really gone in depth when I got the audition. I knew it was based on Blue Bloods but it all happened really quickly,” he recalled. “It was within about a week’s time and I was really thrown into it quickly. I did binge watch as much as I could and I found doing the later seasons was more helpful. I wanted to get a sense of who Sean was toward the end of the show and to really get a sense of his character at that point into adulthood and his relationship with Danny.”

Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.

Selma Blair Shares Health Update Amid Her Multiple Sclerosis Battle

Selma Blair shared an update on her battle with multiple sclerosis (MS), more than seven years after revealing her diagnosis.

Speaking to Stellar on Saturday, November 22, Blair, 53, confirmed she had been relapse-free for a “couple of years” and shared her gratitude that her condition was not worsening.

“That, of course, means the world to me that I’m not, at this moment, accumulating more damage in my brain. I have also made a lot of strides with the vibe of neuroplasticity,” she told the outlet.

Blair continued, “I’m very, very lucky. Everyone’s experience with MS is different. I think I do have a certain place [to speak publicly]. My big mouth likes to see what I can do about stigma.”

Selma Blair Offers Positive Health Update Amid 7-Year MS Battle

According to the Mayo Clinic, MS is “a disease that causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. Multiple sclerosis can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms.”

The Cruel Intentions star publicly shared her MS diagnosis in October 2018 via an emotional Instagram post.

At the time, Blair shared a mirror selfie and wrote about a wardrobe fitting for her Netflix sci-fi drama, Another Life.

“I was in this wardrobe fitting two days ago. And I am in the deepest gratitude. So profound, it is, I have decided to share,” Blair wrote. “The brilliant costumer #Allisaswanson not only designs the pieces #harperglass will wear on this new #Netflix show , but she carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself. I have #multiplesclerosis.”

“I am in an exacerbation,” she continued,  adding her symptoms were worsening at the time. “By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix, I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.”

Blair went on to share details of her difficult health experience in order to give hope to others battling something similar and thanked those supporting her.

“I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself,” she added. “You can’t get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You want to sleep. You always want to sleep. So I don’t have answers. You see, I want to sleep. But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow. I want to play with my son again. I want to walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS and I am ok. But if you see me, dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up. It takes a whole day for me alone. Thank you and may we all know good days amongst the challenges.”

Selma Blair Gives a Health Update Amid MS Remission

Last month, Blair opened up about how doctors dismissed her early symptoms of MS before she was ultimately diagnosed with the disease.

“I was diagnosed with relapsing limiting MS in 2018. It turned out I probably had juvenile MS as my first optical neuritis was when I was about seven, which left me with a lazy eye from nerve damage,” Blair said at the Flow Space Women’s Health Summit. “But there were a lot of things missed my whole life.”

Blair recalled that she experienced consistent pain, fatigue and neurological problems — all of which were overlooked when she was younger.

“I had CAT scans as a kid, and I had doctor visits, and I stayed in hospitals for weeks at a time,” Blair said. “I’d have fevers, I have pain, endless, bone crushing fatigue that I still do have. And my mom would say, why can’t you give her an MRI? And they’re like, ‘Oh, she doesn’t need it. She’s probably getting her period.’”

Taking to her Instagram Story on Friday, November 21, Brittany, 30, shared a photo of Sterling, 4, carting her mom’s expensive bag while on the sidelines of dad Patrick’s NFL game.

The photo showed the youngster facing away from the camera while holding on to her mom’s Fendi Baguette bag. The designer bag usually retails for up to almost $4000.

Sterling wore a cute outfit to complete the look, rocking a denim skirt and a yellow sequined top while ear muffs covered her ears.

“Not her stealing my purse … 🤣” Brittany captioned the post.

“It’s a growing family, but [I] hope we are done growing for a little while,” Patrick said  in a press conference following Golden’s birth in January. “It’s cool that I’m able to play in these big games, and the Kansas City community has brought me in to be a part of their family.”

The kids and Brittany are often spotted cheering on Patrick at his games, where he plays quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Patrick has previously showed gratitude for the hard yards that Brittany puts in for their family, describing her as a “Hall of Fame” wife and mother.

“I think people don’t even realize how much she does,” he said on the “Impaulsive” podcast in May 2024. “I mean, taking care of the day-to-day stuff and make it where I can focus on football and focus on my craft and everything like that. [She’s] a Hall of Fame mom and a Hall of Fame wife, [which] makes it a lot easier. I mean, when you get to come home and your best friend’s there and you can just hang out, it makes you want to be there all the time and she pushes me to be great and she’s done a lot of great things herself.”

Speaking on the “WHOOP” podcast in 2024, Brittany opened up about rolling up her sleeves and working hard to accommodate her husband’s demanding sports career.

“I understand that, during football season, Patrick’s with football and so I take on a lot of the things that I can just to make his life a little bit stressful outside of football,” she said on the podcast. “I try and take care of as many things as I can and take things off of his plate, so that he can work on football and perfect that.”

Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s team supporter Melina Mkandawire dies after collapsing at Mzuzu Stadium

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The football community has been left in deep shock and sorrow following the sudden death of Melina Agness Kumwenda Mkandawire, a well-known supporter and benefactor of Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s team.

The tragic incident happened on 21 November at Mzuzu Stadium during a match between Nyasa Big Bullets Women and MK Academy.

Eye witnesses say Mkandawire, who had travelled to the stadium to cheer her team, appeared fine throughout the game.

However, as the final whistle blew and she prepared to leave the stands, she suddenly collapsed, forcing those around her to call for emergency help. She was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed that she had died upon arrival, sending shockwaves across the stadium and leaving supporters heartbroken.

Bullets Women’s team dies

Arrangements have been made to transport the body to her home village in Karonga today, 22 November, where she will be laid to rest.

Mkandawire was known not only as a passionate football supporter but also as a strong pillar behind the Bullets Women’s team, often assisting the players and encouraging young talent in the sport.

Her death has cast a dark cloud over women’s football in Malawi with many describing her as a mother figure who supported the game with genuine love.

Meanwhile, the match she attended ended 2-0 in favour of Nyasa Big Bullets Women but celebrations were muted as news of her passing spread among fans and officials.

The football fraternity has since sent messages of condolence to the family, honouring Mkandawire’s commitment and contributions to the sport.

Malawians living in South Africa face mistreatment, harassment

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Movement for Unity and Economic Change has raised alarm over the growing mistreatment of Malawians living in South Africa, describing the situation as shocking and deeply troubling.

The statement, signed by Chipulumutso Phiri, questioned why Malawians remain silent while their brothers and sisters across the border continue to face threats to both life and property.

The group said it is now clear that many Malawians in South Africa are in danger with some being targeted even when they possess valid working documents.

They expressed disappointment that such hostility is happening in a country that once relied heavily on the support of other African nations during the apartheid struggle.

According to the statement, it is surprising that South Africa, which recently took Israel to the International Court of Justice over alleged genocide in Gaza, is allowing similar acts of violence to unfold within its own borders.

The movement reminded Africans that the borders separating them were created during the colonial scramble for Africa and therefore Africans should consider themselves as one people.

With this historical context, the movement appealed to the Malawi Government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to urgently engage the South African authorities.

They said government intervention is needed to find immediate ways of ensuring that Malawians in South Africa are protected and where necessary, safely brought home.

The group stressed that this is a painful moment, as even law-abiding Malawians with proper documents are still being mistreated by individuals taking the law into their own hands.

The statement concluded by urging the government of Malawi to quickly rescue its citizens in South Africa, saying this is the time they need support the most.

Of Police Chief Luhanga directive: Are roadblock checks instituted for pleasure?

The new Inspector General (IG) of Malawi Police Service, Richard Luhanga, has recently issued a directive that stops roadblock checks during the peak hours.

Proponents of this order argue that eliminating roadblock checks during peak hours help alleviate traffic jams, allowing for smoother flow of vehicles and reducing travel times for commuters.

By a consequence, less congestion on the road often leads to increased productivity as people spend less time in traffic, potentially benefiting local businesses and the economy at large.

As a result, it is believed that the Mkulukuta Moyo government will be viewed more favorably by the public for taking steps to reduce inconvenience on our roads thereby improving daily commutes.

Needless to overemphasise that law enforcement resources can also be redirected to other areas where they are more needed, such as crime prevention or community engagement.

Despite the aforementioned benefits of the IG’s directive, its negative repercussions must also be considered.

For starters, reducing roadblock checks will potentially lead to an increase in criminal activities, such as drug trafficking or other illegal activities, as offenders will feel they have a lower risk of being caught during the peak hours.

Furthermore, it is important to know that roadblocks serve as a deterrent for impaired or reckless driving. They are not erected for luxury purposes.

Therefore, their absence during peak hours will potentially lead to an increase in accidents or unsafe driving behaviors.

Additionally, by implementing such directive, some critics feel that the Mkulukuta Moyo government is neglecting public safety by not conducting checks during high-traffic times, culminating into a potential loss of trust in law enforcement.

Obvious eliminating roadblocks during peak hours only will disproportionately affect certain communities or demographics, leading to perceptions of inequity in law enforcement practices.

In conclusion, the decision to stop roadblock checks during peak hours was supposed to be taken after weighing the benefits of improved traffic flow and economic efficiency against the potential risks to public safety and crime prevention.

It is therefore my considered view that roadblock checks should not be necessarily removed altogether during peak others but they must be erected on an irregular basis.
