The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a concerted effort to tackle corruption in the public procurement process.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in his office in Abuja on Friday, the Director General, BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, said the initiative became necessary since the responsibilities of a seamless public procurement process rest with respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), which must act with integrity and diligence.

According to him, BPP recognises human tendencies and will rely on third parties such as CIFCFIN to investigate irregularities and take lawful, corrective action when necessary.

He called on Institute in the spirit of the agreement, to assist BPP in deepening investigations wherever necessary and to furnish the agency with appropriate information, adding: ‘We will collaborate with our partners in the investigation and prosecution sectors to ensure full enforcement of the law.

This partnership is genuine and vital. Together, we will work to safeguard this nation from those who oppose its development in all spheres of life.’

Governor Umo Eno has flagged off the construction of youth-friendly centres across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom state

He said the centres marked a significant milestone in the implementation of his ARISE Agenda, particularly its focus on human capital development, innovation, and inclusive growth.

According to the Governor, the initiative is not merely a brick-and-mortar project but a strategic investment in the future, a network of creativity, learning, and empowerment designed to transform the potential of young people into productive ventures.

In Uruan Local Government Area, Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, and the Commissioner for Housing, Dr Henry Archibong described the project as ‘a promise made and a promise fulfilled.’

He explained that the initiative falls under Aspiration 2, Articles 5 and 6 of the ARISE Agenda, which focus on Wealth Creation, Employment Generation, and Youth Skills Development.

According to him, the programme is designed to enhance skills acquisition, innovation, and inclusion, creating new pathways for young people to thrive in today’s competitive global economy.

‘Our goal is to ensure that every Akwa Ibom youth has access to opportunities that can change their story. These youth-friendly hubs are not just buildings but engines of creativity, innovation, and enterprise,’ the Governor stated through his representatives.

In Etinan Local Government Area, where the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Ubuo Ubuo, he reiterated that the administration places high priority on harnessing the potential of young people and equipping them for a progressive and productive life.

Ubuo expressed optimism that the new centre will not only enhance interaction and capacity building among youths but also ensure sustainable development and, in turn, boost the local economy.

In Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, the Governor was represented by the Special Adviser on Co-operative and Rural Development, Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong, who explained that the project is designed to create platforms where young people can thrive, gain relevant skills, and contribute meaningfully to the State’s socio-economic advancement.

‘The Youth-Friendly Centre is conceived as a space for skill acquisition, mentorship, and innovation,’ she stated, emphasizing that the centres will serve as incubators for creativity and entrepreneurship.

In Urue-Offong Oruko, the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political and Social Re-Orientation, Barr. Kufre Udosen, described the project as another testament to the governor’s avowed commitment to youth development and empowerment.

Also, in Itu Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, described the project as part of the government’s effort to provide inclusive spaces where young people can acquire skills, build capacity, and channel their energies productively.

He further explained that the centres will promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and positive youth engagement, adding that it aligns perfectly with the governor’s drive for a self-reliant and digitally skilled generation.

At Ikono LGA, Princess Emem Ibanga, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering on the ARISE Agenda, saying that the initiative underscores Governor Eno’s vision of ensuring that every youth has access to opportunities that improve their lives and foster self-reliance.

In Mkpat Enin, Prof. Ubong Umoh, Commissioner for Education, said the governor’s policies are now being translated into tangible, life-impacting projects* that will connect and empower young people across the 31 LGAs. He emphasized that the centres will harness the energy and creativity of the youth to drive development across the State.

At Eastern Obolo, the Governor’s Political Adviser, Akparawa (Dr.) Godwin Ntukideh, stressed the importance of acquiring digital, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills to sustain livelihoods in a fast-evolving world.

Similarly, in Nsit Ubium, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, noted that the hubs are ‘not just buildings but safe spaces and innovation centres designed to equip youths with skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive both locally and internationally.’

At Nsit Atai, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Rt. Hon. Inibehe Silas, highlighted that the centres will feature ICT hubs, e-libraries, incubation units, co-working spaces, and creative lounges facilities that will enable young people to develop essential 21st-century skills and build sustainable careers.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Pastor Imo Bassey, who represented Governor Eno in Oron Local Government Area described the Youth-Friendly Centre project as a critical milestone in the implementation of the ARISE developmental blueprint, stressing that it is not a political gesture but a deliberate and strategic investment in the future of Akwa Ibom youths.

He noted that the network of centres across all LGAs will serve as a bridge and resource hub for youths and other members of society to leverage opportunities, expand their horizons, and contribute meaningfully to community and state development.

The Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP) has announced the postponement of the business grants disbursement to Batch A applicants, initially scheduled to commence on October 20, 2025.

In a statement, the programme’s Coordinator-General, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, cited complexities in ensuring a transparent, accountable, and accurate disbursement process as the reason for the delay.

He has cautioned applicants against fake news circulating on social media platforms claiming that the disbursement has commenced, warning that internet fraudsters are peddling false information to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.

Sunderland moved into second place in the Premier League as winger Chemsdine Talbi scored a 94th-minute winner to stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be re-elected in the 2027 poll.

He described the president as a courageous, visionary and transformational leader, whose reforms are bearing fruits.

Abiru lauded the bold reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of the foreign exchange market, and redirection of resources to key sectors, which have restored economic stability and fiscal discipline.

He spoke at the endorsement of the president by the All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful in Lagos.

Justifying the call for continuity, Abiru said: ‘Two years ago, Nigerians entrusted him with the leadership of our nation at one of the most difficult moments in our modern history. The economy was distressed, public confidence shaken, and our national direction uncertain.

‘Yet, true to his courage and visionary spirit, President Tinubu chose the harder but more honourable path: the path of reform, restructuring, and renewal.’

Abiru, who represents Lagos East District in the Senate, highlighted key achievements of the administration, including, the NELFUND educational loans for over 510,000 students, CrediCorp loans worth ?30 billion to 150,000 Nigerians, the new ?70,000 minimum wage, and Project Bridge, a 90,000km fibre optic network powering digital transformation.

He applauded the synergy between the National Assembly and the Executive, noting that landmark laws, including the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025, Student Loan Act, Electricity Act Amendment, Data Protection Act, and Police Reform Bill, Security Agency Acts, Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (Amendment) Bill and Startup Act implementation framework, both aimed at deepening innovation, protecting local content, and nurturing tech ecosystem; and Revenue Administration Harmonisation Bill, have strengthened the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said: ‘These legislative interventions are the backbone of the President’s reforms, providing legal and institutional stability.’

Abiru, who is the Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum, reaffirmed Lagos’ historic role in progressive governance, recalling how President Tinubu’s era as Lagos governor set the foundation for fiscal innovation and inclusive growth, which is now replicated nationwide.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has allocated N8.18 billion to the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State for infrastructural development since 2011.

The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr. Sonny Echono, made this known during the inauguration of five landmark projects at the state-owned polytechnic as part of activities marking its combined 12th to 23rd Convocation Ceremonies.

Echono, represented by the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation of TETFund, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, said that the institution had so far accessed N5.57 billion from the fund, leaving a balance of N2.61 billion committed to other ongoing projects on the campus.

He explained the newly commissioned TETFund-sponsored projects, which include the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, Faculty of Engineering Technology building, 250-seater twin lecture theatre and construction and furnishing of academic staff offices, are collectively worth over N1.7 billion.

According to him, the projects with many others currently ongoing on the campus-reflect the President Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and academic standards across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

Echono commended RUGIPO for the judicious utilization of intervention funds, noting that all sponsored projects were completed to specification despite economic challenges.

He urged the institution to ensure proper maintenance of all facilities.

Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Olorunwa Adegun said the polytechnic had sustained a tradition of excellence and accountability by ensuring effective use of all infrastructural facilities.

Adegun lauded TETFund for its transformative contributions to the growth of the institution since it became a beneficiary of the government’s intervention scheme.

He appealed to the TETFund to consider the polytechnic for inclusion in the 2026 Special Intervention and Special High Impact Intervention, noting that the gesture would enable the polytechnic to establish a modern health centre and construct additional hostels for students.

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, has launched a seven-point agenda aimed at fostering academic excellence, research and innovation, entrepreneurial and financially sustainable university.

Asikhia also said that the university has embraced Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a manner that would not kill rigorous critical thinking, saying the institution is in the business of producing thinking graduates that solve problems and not intentionally bankrupt individuals.

He said over-dependent on AI for research was capable of killing critical thinking and engendering intellectually bankrupt citizens if not checked.

He explained that what develops the brain is the intellectual exercise it’s put to and critical thinking it exerts to sharpen itself to generate insightful ideas or solutions to problems, warning that if this important role of the brain is outsourced to the AI completely, a people gradually become lazy and risk being intellectually bankrupt.

Asikhia disclosed this during a media interaction at the university’s Council Chamber, Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Founder of Dr. Nicholas Foundation, Dr. Felix Nicholas, has dismissed insinuations that he distributed free fuel to motorists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, to woo voters for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nicholas said his free fuel distribution was to serve as palliative to cushion effect of high cost of fuel.

The former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant distributed the free fuel at the Shafa Petrol station.

Nicholas said he ensured the beneficiaries were dispatch rider, commercial drivers and tricycle riders because those represented the poor masses.

Nicholas, however, explained that his gesture was not to woo voters for the 2027 general election but giving back to the society.

According to him: ‘We have been doing this for the past two years. We are here to give out free fuel. This started in 2014, even in the United States. We decided to bring it here. And what a better time to bring the renewed hope to the people, to let them know that there is hope.

‘I know fuel is one thing that everybody talks about since the removal of the fuel subsidy. So we just decided to come and put a smile in the face of the people. You can see the bike men, the bus driver, they are so excited, and that’s what this is all about.’

‘This has nothing to do with campaign. When it’s time to campaign, we’ll rule out what Mr. President has done. There’s no campaign here. We are not campaigning. We did it in Ibadan 2018. We did it in Benin here in 2019. We did it last year in Benin. We did it in Etsako. We did it in Auchi. We did it in Niger State. We did it in Abuja in July. So we are doing it as much as possible. We’re taking it around.’

Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma and his Sokoto State counterpart, Gov Hamad Ali, will be special guests of honour at the 25th National Conference of Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, (COWLSO).

According to a statement by the organisers, Governor Uzodinma will be the special guest of honour for the opening ceremony while Governor Ali will serve as the special guest of honour for the closing ceremony.

The wife of the Lagos State governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwoolu is the convener, National Women Conference and Chairman, Committee of Wives of Lagos State officials.

According to the statement, the conference themed, ‘Visionary Legacy; Inspiring the Next Generation,’ is scheduled to be held between October 28 and 30th at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

‘It will present a vibrant array of side attractions designed to complement its main plenary sessions and keynote presentations. Media personality Do2dtun has explained replying negative comments gives him a sense of relief and authenticity, rather than bottling things up.

Speaking during a recent podcast, he said: ‘I like the fact that I have a great pair of people who actually follow me and I rather deal with people that know me very well and what that means is that sometimes I can come across as. I kind of pose a personality that is abrasive but that’s not who I am’.

Explaining further, he noted how the entertainment industry often pressures public figures to ignore criticism.

He said: ‘I think for me it came from the idea of when I was in this space, entertainment as it is, it was easier to say things to people and then you just embrace it.

‘Everybody has their own different threshold, right? Then it was easier for me to take these things sometimes, to validate these things. When someone says ‘ah you’re mad,’ I’m thinking okay maybe I’m actually mad.

‘But because the fact that you’re in a space pushes you into a public position -okay, you’re a public figure, and certain things you can’t address, just leave it as it is’.

However, Dotun admitted that staying silent doesn’t always work for him.

‘But the truth is I felt better.when somebody says certain things to me and I don’t like it and I’m not happy about it. I’m like a human being before anything. If I met you on the road and you said that to me, I probably would have replied you anyways. The only difference now is that it’s on the phone,’ he said.

‘There’s so many people I don’t even reply, I just block them off. But I feel better when you say things to me and I say mine back. Go and check all my conversations. If I address anything, I address it from a point of view of wisdom, and I’m not saying I’m the wisest person in the room, I just think I’m one of the few guys who I’ve seen I’m a human being before anything else, which is normal, it’s okay.’

Speaking further on his personal growth, Dotun explained how living his truth has helped him evolve as a person, even when it exposes his vulnerable side.

‘Now apart from that, I also have grown to understand that I got better as a person when I became. I live my truth and I just don’t hold it back.

‘For example, with all the things that happened with me, with family -people that know me, Dotun will never – so I saw comments like ‘Dotun will never have.’ that’s it. They saw that side of me because you’ve touched something that really got to me,’ he said.

‘And why would I lie to myself and hide if I have to deal with it differently? We’re all different.

‘But the truth is that we are all in an industry that embraces that you don’t speak your truth regardless of whether it is or you see things going on with people and then you have to just suck it up because at the end of the day that’s what it says.’
